I do like Hearn and think he's entertaining, but I agree. He does seem to go out of his way to be a bit bitter. That's not to say Warren and Arum etc don't though. I think to an extent it's just part of the sport. I've always thought in a parallel universe it would've been really interesting to see Hearn promote Fury. I suspect when they and AJ are both safely retired, Hearn may actually admit that never working with Fury was his biggest career regret.
He’s on record as saying it. Before he made his comeback. But he basically said something along the lines of “I looked at the guy and thought, he’s 28 stone, no man born from his mother could make such a comeback”
How can it be a regret if the ball is not in his court? He would obviously have loved to promote Fury, but Fury will not give him that satisfaction. Fury can banter with anyone, and people get this misconception that Fury likes Hearn. Hearn is literally the opposite sort of guy that is compatible with Fury. Hearn is personable, and so is Fury, but that doesn't mean that Fury doesn't view Hearn as an irritant. Hearn is certainly good at his job, but he's no oracle. Everything has been handed to him on a plate - and it's not hard to look exceptional when the vast majority of boxing promoters are 1) old - and everything that comes with that. For instance, Hearn had the foresight to publicise himself in a particular way via iFL TV 2) fat 3) ugly 4) extremely highly strung. In other words, out of touch and unfashionable. Without his father and later, Sky, Hearn would be an Essex estate agent making £40,000 - £120,000 per annum.
I do think there is a bit of mutual respect there. The podcast Fury did with Hearn showed that to a degree. Fury was never going to sign with Hearn back in 2018 though as it would have meant playing second fiddle to Joshua. Fury's decision will probably prove to be the right one for his career.
I think Hearn will inevitably have a lot more respect for Fury than vice versa. Fury is literally a sporting superstar, so of course Hearn will respect him, and he will be licking his wounds that Fury has managed to make himself into a cash cow. No relentless lefty media coverage (BBC etc.) and therefore no big brands ironically throwing himself at him. No beach body. No 99% certain match-ups from the start of his career right through until 2 opponents. No constant UK stadium fights with dodgy officiating in his favour. One has to respect that. Hearn, on the other hand, is a silver spoon fed salesman whose job is literally to extract as much cash out of the consumer as possible, while maintaining a certain professional and public image (the essence of a salesperson). Fury has become a bit of a sleaze himself, so he can't blame Hearn for being a sleaze per se. But at the same time, salespeople tend not to have that much respect for each other for obvious reasons.
This content is protected ‘Nobody can touch me, I am the best promoter in the world bar none’ Goes on to slate the fight between Andrade v Parker. Why bid for it then mate.
He's a parody of himself at this point and is so pompous and lacking in self-awareness that he doesn't even realise it.
He gives away way too much in interviews and then looks like a fool at a later date for comments in said interviews.
He’s just done another interview claiming the Khan Brook figures were dreadful because they didn’t have big promotional power behind it (ironic when barely anyone knows when DAZN shows are on) and PPV is dead pretty much. I’d bet big on it doing more buys than DAZN having UK subscribers the absolute gimp.
Eddie has been sounding like an extremely unlikeable **** over the last month or so. He’s become the type of bitter promoter, he has always labeled Frank and others as. He keeps going on about fur coat and no knickers, which is ironic seeing as Big Len had to clear the debts off from DAZN to keep them in business. Their financials made for pitiful reading. I think it’s the beginning of the end for him now to be honest. Not in the next few years, but I would be surprised if he is still in boxing in 5 years.
It's unbelievable how much nonsense Eddie Hearn says. According to Hearn, the PPV numbers for Khan vs Brook were very poor. It is a lie. I know the numbers were really good.
Every interview he’s done today is him saying how he’s the best promoter in the world. Seems like he’s desperate not to be forgotten about. His latest one is ‘John Fury knows Tyson would be much bigger if I was promoting him, he knows I’m the best promoter in the world’. The Fury’s think you’re a nob mate.
