It's a tough on for AJ..... He is so raw it's a joke. I have no issue with him turning pro, but he really needs to be guided carefully. Ideally he should stay as an amature until after Rio.... I reckon money will talk & he'll turn
Stay amateur until after the next world championships (next year?), then he gains more experience and the likes of Price and Fury are too far advanced to be viable fights for him.
It's wise to remain amateur and develop into a smart professional..maybe two years i say. Chunky and Audley made an impression with their Olympic achievements.. I hope a good promoter picks up the Ukranian gold champ, USYKO.
He did say he was looking to stay until Rio. However, I was reading somewhere that he has been offered a contract with GoldenBoy for 10 fights with HBO exposure. Then he will definitely be getting that gold...
2.3 million is the UK viewing figures. It's not that hard to achieve, as Chisora/Haye was the biggest fight of the year. Even Lily Allen bought the fight, Ronnie O Sullivan turned up on crutches. Even the SKY team discussed the the fight before Khan/Garcia. It was a massive fight. Frank made biggest fight of the year between a retired fighter and banned fighter at a football stadium. That's a real promoter.
Watching him he should definitely they amateur, otherwise I could see Matchroom etc feeding him people so terrible we would be longing for the pregnant Latvian that Price fought This guy is raw to the core, raw like reservoir dogs (sorry, couldnt help it)
Difficult to see how winning the amateur worlds next year adds much to his stock. Hearn is the only promoter without a UK heavyweight and has a decent tv deal in place. He either turns pro now, trousers more money, and fights bums or stays amateur and tries to win the worlds which could prove difficult. I'd say he'll turn pro within the year, perhaps within three months.
:rofl:rofl He didn't have to do **** ALL to promote that fight, the fight sold it self. Matchroom shows pull in about 5 times more then Franks do on Boxnation, sometimes more, that's a fact.
He should turn pro now- He is lucky that he can spar D.Price, Haye and Fury for the next two years whilst fighting twice or once a month with a lucrative tv contract- Two year plan- Nov 2012 to Nov 2014 Fight at most twice a month, minimum once a month bar injuries or fatigue. Tv deal with BBC, ITV or Channel 5 will allow him to be rich and pay his opponents. He could be 20-0 by then having fought mostly journeyman but having sparred with top pros. In 2015 start to fight for British or commonwealth titles.
he is raw so feed gim c level or b level journeymen, create a huge buzz/star....but the real work is tough fights against price, fury and haye in the gym. It would be awesome to see him twice a month knock guys out, it would be a great buzz.
thinking about it, he could actually have 40 fights in two yrs bar injury since the opposition is low, and because of TV contract, promotion deals, sponsorship deal he could afford to do it, do it old school with the frequency. He could also convince e,savon to come over and spar him, or have a real fight behind closed doors. Sugar Ray Leonard did this before he fought Hagler.
It's a tough choice for him as there is no real precedent. Audley is a bad example, one which couldn't be replicated at present (a £1 mill BBC deal that is), Degale is a pretty bad example in terms of exposure and matchmaking. Even the Khan route, which he probably has most in common with (star boxer, limited AM experience), is outdated as he probably won't get an ITV deal. Does he have the appeal to be a 'SKY made' star? Maybe not. I think McCracken has persuaded him to stay on, become World Amateur Champ (Rob's 1st I believe). At this point Froch will be all but retired and McCracken will take Josh on as his number one. Just a theory but thats my tuppence worth
