Wow I can't believe Ricky Burns fans are actually having a pop at Hearn. Let's be honest, Burns may well be a three weight world champion on paper, but in reality he is not even close to the caliber of fighter we come to expect from fighters who have achieved similar feats. He's a nice guy but he's a very basic fighter who has well overachieved in his career & some of that is down to Eddie securing him title shots at the weaker champs of each division, & some of it is down to a few gift decision & some of it is down to the hard work Burns has put in the gym. At the end of the day Hearn has done wonders for Burns in his career & just because he come up short in a unification fight with a fighter none of us realised was actually way better than we thought, I just don't get how you complain?
Is that not the point, you criticised eddies boxing knowledge.. perhaps they thought/hoped indongo wasn't very good? It's easy saying it now but before the fight nobody really knew.
so my question to you is, your the promoter for a unification fight against a unknown southpaw, yet comes from a stable who have previously went to Japan and Russia to win world titles and your hoping he's not good enough ffs get real. Ricky's friends told me they were told this guy was Commonwealth level
Two things: has Indongo proven he is actually THAT good? He beat Ricky largely due to work rate (Ricky did nothing at all) and because Ricky is not that good. And second, you think it's reasonable to avoid a unification bout just because the opponent has qualities that your fighter struggles with? So if AJ beats Klitsckho and then Luis Ortiz becomes champion later this year, do you think it would be reasonable for AJ to avoid the unification bout because Ortiz is southpaw and AJ struggled with them in the amateurs? Good to know that Burns has more ambition than you and isn't afraid to lose.
Ricky was told the lad was shite but turns out he wasnt? Isnt it Ricky and his teams job to get prepared?you dont have talk some shite on here mind billy. I hate hearn but you can fault him for Saturday. To say Ricky was told he was commonwealth is mental.
I can't stand Hearn but he put his fighter in a unification fight against someone that wasn't Terence Crawford. Really don't understand what else he should have done. He's just come off what was supposed to be another soft touch in Relikh which ultimately Ricky lost. He isn't the fighter he once was, that's nothing on Hearn to be honest.
its simple really Ricky has always struggled with southpaws, under no circumstances is he a lightwelterindongo proved that size wise, in all honesty I beleive Ricky would still be a lightweight had he not got the vacant shot against a shockingly bad Di Rocco
Matchroom has young very inexperienced people in key positions. They lost their experienced main match maker and replaced him with a fresh faced kid who doesnt really know boxing.
What would you rather Hearn do, keep matching Burns against soft opponents with inflated records so he can get a few more gift decisions & keep that belt hostage in Scotland? Sooner of later he has to step it up and get exposed, Burns had a fantastic opportunity to become a unifed champion at 140 but he blew it, no one to blame but himself. Lets not pretend that Indongo is some killer just because he UD Ricky Burns, he would still stand no chance against guys like Crawford.
^Indongo has so many flaws, his footwork isn't the best and he's open to a counter easily if he goes into every fight throwing those long lefts (although tbh I think he was throwing wildly from the off because his team just didn't rate Burns at all).
It's all very well saying that Burns doesn't do well with south paws, but how many has he had to fight recently!? If he were truly a world class operator he would have adapted by now and surely manage alright against south paws. I don't mean any disrespect to Burns there as I really like him and love what he's done for the sport up here. But come on, to blame Hearn for Saturday night and make out Burns was hard done by being given the opportunity to unify the division is laughable.
