Eddie Machen vs Jumbo Cummings

If Machen gets hit by an inspired Cummings, he's going out.

You'd have a point if Cummings was stopped by anyone other than those with humongous power. Not by Witherspoon, not by Snipes, etc. Also, you're comparing vastly different fighters.

 

Machine points, much more well schooled, didn’t Cummings learn boxing in prison? I know he got in at 17 and got out at 29, so he would’ve learned most of what he knew in prison.

 

That's true, but I still wouldn't bet on Machen to stop Cummings.

 

Machen by a comfortable decision. Not a big puncher but leagues better than Cummings in skill and talent

 

He didn't have the power of Moore or Satterfield either, but yet he did what they couldn't by KOing Valdes.

 

But I'm sure you know that there's a much bigger differential in power between Machen and Bruno rather than Moore and Machen. The knockout of Valdes is impressive, he had a very tight match with Nino the first time, and with only one more fight under his belt he's able to knock him out clean. Very good accomplishment, but not enough evidence to say that he'd stop Cummings, especially with the chin that Floyd has shown.

 

It's a mismatch. Cummings win record is virtually non existent. His claim to fame is hurting Bruno who was showing his penchant for freezing very early on and beating Joe Frazier who may not have beat anyone in the top 50 at that point. The guy had two wins over opposition with more than 10 wins. One of those had 23 losses to 11 wins. The other had 22 wins to 2 losses. One guy that beat him was 22-17-1, the other 8 wins 9 losses.

Machen schools him and may stop him in the later rounds.
