Unfortunately, I think Diaz' style is part of the problem with him having pop... he gets so up close to his opponents that he smothers his own punches, takes the force out of them. To illustrate my point:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PoJ3L9d4qa0

The one time I thought Diaz really had Marquez in trouble was at about 1:34-1:35 of this video, and a big part of the reason why is because Marquez was going straight back, and Diaz was forced to extend his arm and the arc of his punch more instead of throwing a little inside punch. The result was a much more powerful punch, and he was able to stun Marquez with a single shot.

Compare that to 1:46 when Diaz throws an up close combo, but all he's doing is cuffing Marquez with the side of his hands and his wrist, and does no real damage. Diaz probably could add some more pop to his punches, but he's a little too fixated on being in his opponent's face.

Even despite that, though, Diaz is a pretty decent swarmer/pressure fighter and all fighters of that type can be a problem if you let them get started and get into a rhythm.

very true, he is a solid pressure fighter, but with all pressure fighters have tendencies to smother there own shots....another problem with diaz is he has worse boxing skills then hatton, with his pressure style.

I think juan's style is tailor made for edwin, so valero wins this one by a brutal KO.

Hmm... Valero is hard puncher and JDiaz is a pressure fighter with speedy hands but he lacks power. JDiaz skill is unquestionable though. JDiaz can land a couple of combinations on Valero, but Valero can damage him with one punch. It can go both ways.

JDiaz can win this but I don't see KOing Valero. IF and only if Valero can land a clean hit on JDiaz, then he can KO JDiaz but that will not happen in the first round. Diaz is a skilled boxer and Valero is a brawler with power.

valero has been knocked down by lighter punchers then diaz. valero has a punching chance below 3 after that JD will take it.

Interesting fight. JMM managed to knock Diaz out after a brawl and I think Valero would do the same if he could turn the fight into a brawl. JMM is very much a counter puncher so for me, Valero TKO 7. Put Valero in with Marquez, though, and we'll find out how good Valero really is. IMO, I think Marquez would school him.

if Valero hit J. Diaz and hurt him so end of the road for Juan Diaz and if Juan can effectively counter pounch while evading power shots of Valero, i think he will win in UD....
