That's one of the reasons beside marketing I want him to have a few more fights. He has the Professor Robert Alcazar training him and they only worked for about 3 or 4 weeks before the last fight. I think he's an excellent trainer. He's got Valero keeping the distance and using his jab more. The longer they work together the more Ed will improve on some things.
Dude, if Valero gets into his boxer-puncher mode, it's fair game against pacman. He's abandoned his boxing ability for quite some time now and that's why Alcazar was brought in. Alcazar is a brilliant trainer and he's going to remind Valero of what he's forgotten. Watch out for the new Valero.
I remember that "someone" once told JCC he'd only beaten Tijuana Taxi Drivers! He got the **** beat out of him. :rasta
True! Its says a lot about "good" trainers when they can take a great talent like a Valero or a PAC who are a bit raw and transform them into incredible boxers. Ed has a head start on PAC in terms of skills and polish....when Roach got PAC he was very raw and very much a one handed fighter. Ed has more demensions at the same point of their caeers IMO. I see a very good career for Ed on the brink. Actually I think Lara is the sleeper! He is far more polished than Ed.....But Ed has that crazy power that makes it easier to market him.
If Ed got into his "boxer/Puncher" mode it's still not fair at this point. Ed really needs rounds against QUALITY opposition. He needs that "Experience" that you can't get by facing B or C level opposition. At this stage the Very Best Valero is still in some ways a mis-match if he's in there with PAC. I say "some ways a mis-match" only bc Ed has got some real power that I think is the real deal! He needs to get in there with a really GOOD fighter like Joan Guzman or Soto to get some of that experience or .......fight consistantly unter Alcazar to be able to really start getting their connection as a fighter and trainer clicking. But Ed is looking for only big names and he needs to be more active....even if its not against a top guy. He's still young and green with a fairly new trainer.
If Ed thinks that he can take the easy route to a pacman fight, he's wrong. You're right, he needs to get some rounds in against a solid opposition and pay his dues before getting a shot at someone like Pac. Even if it was up to me, I wouldnt put him in with pacman right now. ONe can't go from point A to point G without putting in work in between. Stylewise, Guzman is a pain in the ass for everybody and valero should stay away from him at all costs. I dont think he'll learn anything from someone like guzzy. Valero will be busy chasing him and he'll look real bad in the process.. Guzman is bad for almost everybody. Arum was talking about a Soto fight in the fall and i think that's a perfect for both sides. It's the perfect test for those two guys. If Valero beats soto convincingly and proves to be a notch above him, the pacman fight must happen.
I like the Soto fight too....but in all honesty, Ed can beat Joan. Joan is fast but not as fast as most think. And Joan is "slick"....but he gets hit. Soto did a very good job against Joan in a loosing effort and I think Ed is better than both. I do agree Joan can make you look bad....he can make good fighters look average but I don't believe Valero is a good fighter. He's a VERY good fighter and progressing constantly. Joan would have trouble with Edwin and eventually Valero would put Joan to sleep. Early rounds may be difficult for Ed but Joan can't hurt Valero so Ed wouldn't really be worried about eating a few to make sure he lands the more effective an harder punches. Overall it is more wise to put him in there with Soto. Ed would be able to showcase the skills he's shown in the gym and would have a tough challenger to test him and get him some much needed rounds! Actually you're right......for a "break out fight"...Soto fits the bill perfectly for Valero. Joan would just be a more difficult test due to his style. And yes! The Ed vs Manny fight must happen!
Hopefully Julio Diaz, maybe Juan Diaz or a title holder willing to face him. How about the Hispanic causing Panic in Texas?
I would love to c Joan with Valero. A very good fight for the fans to c the quality of Edwin. However, if Guzman ducked Campbell, guess what, he'll do it vs Valero.
