I don't think he was really elite he just had the 70ko streak story.

Jeremy Williams was viewed as the second coming in the amateurs and didn't amount to **** in the pro's.

Alot of ppl expected Khan to be the second coming of him lol, if only Freddie Roach had been around in the mid-80's lol.

Mark Breland looked like a world beater coming out of the Olympics, but he never panned out

In the mid-'50s in N.Y. there was a smaller Joe Louis, Vince Shomo -- with a tight left hook that would knock down buildings -- that had 13 first-round KOs, winning four Golden Gloves titles, from 126 to 135. Thought he was gonna come roarin' out of the amateurs 'n take the world by storm.

The promise fell far short as a pro. Became a ref.

Michael Bentt, sure he beat the crap out of Tommy Morrison for the WBO belt, but he was something super special as an amateur., with a handful of losses in 190 bouts.

Possibly the worst chin I've ever seen in comparison to overall skill.

How about Muhammad Abdullaev? Great amateur, Olympic Gold medalist, but his best pro win was over Jesse Feliciano and he lost badly every time he stepped up.

A few Cubans, Ramon Garbey, Yan Barthelemy and Jorge Luis Gonzalez all jump to mind as well. Barthelemy was supposed to be the best of the three between Gamboa, him and Solis, but he's already lost twice to nobodies 10 fights into his career. Garbey won world championships at middleweight and light heavyweight as an amateur, but when he went pro, he ballooned in weight and has mostly been a journeyman heavyweight. Gonzalez ran up a pretty record fighting nobodies, but ended up with a 31-7 record, getting hammered every time he stepped up to world class level.
