Top Rank on ESPN, April 24th. Yet another chapter to be written in the Mexico vs. Puerto Rico boxing championship rivalry. WBO featherweight title on the line, first defense of Navarrete. Díaz is rated WBO #6. "The Cowboy" will be making his third stint above super bantam since departing that division as WBO champ with five defenses. Most recently he clobbered his way artlessly but with brutal efficacy to a UD for the vacant strap over Rubén Villa IV, scoring two knockdowns that staved off a draw on the official judges' cards, and victory for RV4 on mine, @CST80's, and most unbiased observers'. "The Smurf" is a career feather, aside from a cup of coffee at 130lbs, going 5-1 in that division over a twenty month span from late 2016 until mid 2018. He is challenging for a world title for the first time since that one SFW loss, to Masayuki Itō - and to significant world level action for the first time since Ash-Shakur Nafi-Shahid Stevenson beat him for some minor belts two years ago.
Pitufo knocks him spark out. He was rocked by RV4, and Pitufo has an excellent chin, and unlike RV4, has dynamite in his hands when he has an easy target. It might be a Valdez-Berchelt replay.
I was really expecting Cowboy to make waves after his two big wins over Dogboe, but he hasn't done too terribly much, has he?
I'm not sure which champion has been more active since then. Unfortunately he's in the division with Can Xu and GRJ who are still in quarantine or whatever, so he hasn't been able to fight the very best but he's stayed busy and taken a couple 0's.
