Duran could match Griffith in many area's despite being a natural 135 to 140 pounder in build... Emile Griffith was not a big welterweight and he often weighed around 144 to 145 solid pounds there... In terms of power, I still like Duran's power better than Griffith's up at 147, 154 or 160 pounds... The only real key thing I'd favor Griffith with is, he overall boxing ability... Griffith and Duran could both box on the elite level, but Griffith was a bit better there... I suppose I'll also give Griffith the nod in conditioning too, since he never seemed outta shape... However, being that Duran is my main man in boxing, as long as he was finely tuned and motivated to take charge in the ring, I think he'd be too much for Griffith whether they fought at 147, 154 or 160.... Griffith had no power to bother Duran with; just movement... Duran would have no fear attacking Griffith... MR.BILL
Yeah, I got that part, ...what I'm saying is that Griffith was one hell of a "poof"...as Monzon, Benvenuti and Tiger would surely attest to...he'd beat Duran handily.
Would be an interesting fight. Montreal Duran is more skilled, but he's not going to bully Griffith around the way he bullied Leonard around. Griffith's strength was immense. If Duran tries to boss Griffith, Emile will probably end up wearing him out over 15 and snatch a close points win. If Duran boxes a little more ala the Hagler fight, (but with more spurts of aggression thrown in) things probably tilt in his favour. Either way, no easy fight for either man.
if duran believed he was gay then surely the machismo thing would get in the way of duran being smart. Maybe a latin person could elaborate/call me stupid.
One of Griffiths opponents once made reference to him being a "poof" at the weigh in. It didnt turn out very good for him. In the ring Emile Griffith was a helluva man.
