Scrap nails this. You are making yourself work too hard by the way you stand, by the way you punch.
By the way, I cannot understand why you hit one bag to work on speed, the other to work on power. They are the same thing.

I think trying to quickly move in and out and around the bag made me not think about stance/technique. I went back to basics on the heavy bag yesterday. 1st round I just stood in front of the bag and threw nothing but jabs, occasionally moving around it slowly. 2nd round I threw nothing but straight rights. 3rd round nothing but left hooks. Rounds 4-6 I threw 1-2s and and 1-2-3s, mixing in uppercuts and body shots once in a while, but little in and out movement and focusing on stance/technique. Gonna keep doing this for the next week.

And I didn't mean to make it sound like I strictly use the green bag for speed and strictly use the red bag for power. The green bag I'm hitting in the video is pretty solid. It has very little give and feels like I'm hitting bricks. I have used this to work on both speed and power in the past, but my hands end up hurting/swelling after a few rounds if I try to throw with full power. Guess I'm just not at the level to hit this with bag full power yet. Either that, or I need to use bigger gloves when hitting this bag. I still work on speed with the softer red bag, but I'm able to throw power shots with more force/confidence cuz I know it won't hurt my hands.

And by working on speed I mean short, quick flurries. By working on power I mean putting my body weight into the punches. For example, I practice getting in with short, quick flurries that aren't intended to hurt. Then move out and in/slip/etc. and throw a combo or power shot that is intended to hurt. I still try to throw power shots with speed though lol.

No it restricts natural flow. It acts as a Brake.

I actually feel the same way reading scrap's post but didn't wanna say anything in case I came off like a dick.

Back to the topic though, I was planning on using a shoe lace to tie around my ankles until I read scrap's lost post. I couldn't find anything similar to what I've seen in videos, so I ended up buying a bike bungee cord. It's 24 inches, but if I loop one end around my ankle it comes out to 18 inches. I can't loop it around both ankles otherwise it becomes too short, so I just need to figure out a way to hook it up to my other leg without wrapping it around. Thinking about trying a shoe lace around the other leg and putting the hook around the shoe lace. The cord looks like this:

You think this will be better than using a shoe lace?

Its all good mate if other people are understanding then its helping the forum. Face to face interaction is the best way to understand anything I find.
My question is surely that there is no one distance that a fighters legs should be apart due to size/dimensions, style etc.? Also I'm pretty sure my head is between my coxis and front knee and if your head was in line with your coxis wouldn't you be wayyy too upright?
I've learnt so much from just admitting I know **** all about certain matters to guys on here. As long as you're not a **** most of the knowledgeable guys are pretty helpful.

I was wondering this myself. I tried shadowboxing with the bungee cord around my ankles for the first time today. Although I think it really helped me with making sure to bring my back foot up if I move my front foot forward and vice versa, at times I felt a little too restricted. I know my stance has been too wide at times, but the bungee cord made my legs feel unnaturally close together and not as mobile with my movements. But maybe that's how it's supposed to feel and I'm just not used to it. And the cord and hook that was looped around my ankle kept digging into the skin and made it too painful to use after 3 or so rounds, so I gotta figure out a new way to hook it up to my legs. My coach was impressed that I'm looking up new ways to improve though and said he thinks the bungee cord will really help me.

Mat, yes. But it depends what is happening with the Feet and Knees. Your balance if you get it, is your Natural Walking Gait. Everything works of it, try walking a couple of steps then Stop, with the Front Foot forward. Put your Hands in Fighting Pose, then lift Heel of back Foot, putting it at 3 o/clock to the front Foot. Now bend the Knees, 10 degrees, relax, relax comfortable. Back Foot can see everything moving Lateral or Back and Forth, you can or should be able, to move where you want in Balance, plus Turn to avoid or Punch. :D

Think you are standing on a big Clock, and the feet are telling the Time.
