What the heck!? Boots wanted to move up in weight, because he found welterweight too hard to make. Yet wants to drain Ortiz, someone who almost freaking DIED making 147. Really ****ing stupid move by team Ennis. :duh

No, it's not a stupid move... it's a damned smart move, because he knows exactly what will happen to him if he sets foot in the ring with Vergil. He's getting his ass spanked and violently KTFO. So... it's a ***** move.:deal:

I actually think this move may hurt his hype train more than an actual fight against Ortiz would've. If he had fought, the best case would've been Boots wins an exciting match and everyone goes GAGA over him and the HYPE IZ REAL! If he lost, worst case is that maybe people realize he ain't that good as people made it out, but Ortiz also isn't a slouch either and depending on how the fight went even after a loss he could've had a chance like Madrimov/Bohachuk/Tszyu where he probably could've stayed at the money level contender fight group for a while until he loses multiple times to all of them.

Now, even though his record has him undefeated, he basically announced to the world that more than the fans and the haters, Boots HIMSELF thinks he would lose to Ortiz if they fought and therefore essentially admitting his defeat. People are no longer going to debate who's gonna win an hypothetical fight between Boots and Ortiz because none other than Boots himself basically put up the white flag saying he thinks Ortiz will beat him, and he's not good enough to fight at the 154 level.

Its quite impressive (/s) how fast a hype train can crash even WITHOUT actually losing in the ring.

Just a few weeks ago people were salivating over the Shakur-Zepeda fight, and anticipating an unification with Tank for the winner. People were actually arguing on whether Shakur will run and win or Zepeda will mow him down with his MEXICAN AGGRESIVENESS, but after narrow win against Farmer a lot of the luster on Zepeda rubbed off, and his "injury" is now considered his ducking regardless of the truth, and no one is assuming he would be able to win against Shakur at this point.
As recent as few hours ago people (myself guilty as well) was talking about how Boots should just go up to 154 and fight Murtazaliev to put him in the picture, or fight good money contenders like Madrimov/Bohachuk if he can't get Fundora/Crawford. Now no one would recommend it because people now know that basically Boots himself doesn't think he can defeat Ortiz who basically went life and death with Bohachuk at 154. Therefore no way he'd challenge the 154 IBF beltholder Murtazaliev who crushed Tszyu. He won't face the winner of Madrimov-Bohachuk at 154 either. He definitely won't face Crawford at 154 if he's not willing to even face Ortiz.

I get what your saying CST, but it’s a stupid move because at some point he’s going to have to move up to 154 and there’s some real killers up there, also it’s a stupid move because Hearn and boots team said it’s either unfications or move up now they just look cowardly.

Ennis probably thinking what is the point when he can get paid handsomely feasting on bums.

The promoters are so desperate to get these guys in their stable they facilitate this.

It’s easy to see why UFC is taking over from boxing. They have no choice but to fight the best.

I haven't seen alot of Ortiz to be fair but I think Ennis is overrated I made a thread almost 2 years ago how alarmed I was about how easily he gets hit.

I thought Ennis was lucky to get the decision vs Karen recently and if he moves up to 154 where there are some real killers I feel like he will be exposed. The fighter who recently beat Tszyu I forget his name but remember those left hooks that dropped Tszyu ? I mean Karen was landing left hooks at will on Ennis can you imagine the fighter who beat Tszyu landing those same left hooks ?

Not a good look. The fight would be for the WBC interim title, over in Saudi on a huge stage for big money, and it's a a great match up which was guaranteed fireworks, and if Super Boots won there were great match ups to be made with the champs and top contenders like Crawford. Bak-M, Fundora, Madrimov etc.

Super Boots has already won a world title at 147, ot was implied he's struggling at the weight after his last fight, and the other champs are/were either ducking him or have shown little interest in facing him. Barrios is bang average. Stan would be interesting for sure. Norman not so much IMO. Benn is with E-Hearn too so I suspect we won't be seeing that anytime soon unless it's a unification match up.

Both he and Ortiz really struggled up at Soviet Level and arguably lost in their previous outings. Ditto with Crawford vs Madrimov. And Tsyzu got absolutely annihilated by Bak-M. I would've like to have seen Super Boots and Crawford step back down to American level against each other and beating Ortiz was the way to make that happen.

In Super Boots defence I suspect they feel like the other champs at 147 will be much more willing to fight him in unification match ups now after his last performance
