You can put "but hey" at the end of anything to try and make it sound acceptable. "I liked him....He did spend a lot of times hacking orphans to bits with his axe.....but hey" Extreme and silly,but same principle being applied.
As I said I think he is a bit of a character. I rarely agree with what he says - but at least he's not one of the sort who always tows the media savvy line.
