Co-main event of the boxing portion of a Triller internet PPV tomorrow night on fite.tv; but not the main event of the overall, well, event (that will in fact be a rap battle pitting NYC groups Dipset and The Lox against each other in a contest of bars & flow rather than feints & blows). The vacant USBA welterweight title will be on the line. Very much a boxer vs. puncher match-up. Walker is assuming the former role, with a majority of his victories coming on points - although he lost (but was competitive in) all three of his biggest steps up in class: against Israil Modrahimovich "The Dream" Madrimov, Brandon Quincy "The Cannon" Adams, and the late Patrick "Straight A" Day. His game plan will be to elude and jab from the outside - and enjoying a five inch height advantage in this match-up will certainly help with that. Golub is more of a banger-brawler despite being a product of the strong Ukrainian amateur system (and he did beat Terrell Gausha there, but was otherwise largely unsuccessful, his style ultimately fitting better into WSB and the pros). The southpaw was signed by DBE prior to his debut in 2014 and remained an unbeaten prospect for three years before losing to fellow lefty Jamontay Javon "The Quiet Assassin" Clark. He is 6-0 (4) since, facing so-so competition. Walker vs. Israil Madrimov: This content is protected Golub vs. Luis Eduardo Flóres Suárez: https://www.bilibili.com/video/av714263817/
Key for Golub will be to wear down Walker so he can put the hurt on him late, as Madrimov did. I question whether Golub has the gas tank, roughness, or general skill level and class of the Uzbek, however. Golub for his part can be countered if drawn into brawls, as he was by Flóres. Again, here I'm unsure Walker measures up in certain important areas - lacking the Colombian's pop and gumption.
Madrimov should be fighting four times a year for at least two years, pad his record a bit and get some pro experience, he's turned pro in 2019 and since then he's had only 7 fights, that isn't very reassuring .
In the card's tertiary match-up, Chris Algieri makes his return to action for the first time in 26 months, facing Mikkel LesPierre.
Walker is a low volume counter-puncher. He didn't look great against Madrimov, was just able to take the power and pressure which is definitely a good sign but i don't think he won 4 rounds. He had two good rounds, Madrimov should have won that via KO but got robbed by the ref. Golub wins a close Decision. He's pretty solid. I think you can make a case for him being undefeated. He beat Clark. But it's decent matchmaking. Close to a pick em' fight. Golub had a lot of hype coming into the pros because he was on the same team like Loma, Gvozdyk and Usyk. He was supposed to fight Conwell in April i think but Conwell pulled out with an injury.
Correction: actually free, not PPV. Official Free Live Stream: https://www.fite.tv/watch/the-trillerverz-1/2p9r2/ The boxing event starts at 6pm ET and the Rap Battle starts at 9pm ET with 30 minutes Intermission.
Ahem... about that losing to Clark thing.... This guy used to be overwhelmingly pro-TMT and Mayweather.
Hm, the Robert Easter vs. Denis Shafikov vs. card eh? Seems that one passed me by. Regardless, you can swap out the lone official but robbery loss for countless underwhelming performances as reason to not see Golub as the sure thing victor here. I believe you even agreed with me at some point after he fought Jamontay Clark that Volk is kind of a one-gear Zewskiesque bore? He is certainly the weakest link of that Ukrainian squad @f1ght3rz mentioned behind not just the obvious Lomachenko and Usyk but I'd say comfortably behind the likes of Gvozdyk as well.
Yeah, he's far from exciting or inspiring, and aside from Shellyshook (whatever happened to him?) and Methkach, he's the least impressive of the Ukrainians in general, although Berinchyk has underwhelmed as well. But Walker who has literally never campaigned at 147, is now 38 and was dead on his feet for the last 8 rounds of the Madrimov fight, that probably doesn't bode well for him here.... at all.
Can we all just pause and take a moment to appreciate Eric Walker's middle names? This content is protected
Ngl, they did actually draw me in and I was entertained by the Lox vs. Dipset verzuz...but screw Triller all the same for leaving this fight off the broadcast.
