You must be joking. This guy got sparked in a round by Ronald Hearns. His last 4 opponents have been a joke and the results say more about how bad they are than how good Lara is.
He is fighting crap. He was progressing nicely beating guys like Brewer and Perez but not really entertaining. So they started padding his record with soft opposition like this. Hopefully he steps it up big time next time out. Lara-Vanes would be idea, both guys have being calling for it.
i actually got raines confused with someone else. quite right he is a bit crap. still a good prospect or not?
Yeah I rate Lara but he needs a step up. Needs to take on a good fringe contender. Someone like Joel Julio or Joe Greene.
Played with the guy and hit him with short compact left. Raines just a poor standard fighter for a guy the level of Lara. He can all way to world honors...but needs to step it up now.
Joel Julio, Joe Greene would make a great undercard fight for a HBO PPV. Rigoberto Alvarez and Sechew Powell would also be good.
Lara was actually saying that Rigoberto Alvarez is someone they're considering. He also holds the WBA 'regular' title :nut. Powell would be another goods step up. Another obvious choice would be Bundrage to pick up a title.
It is the first time I have seen him I think and I'm basing the following only on that one clip. He seems to have virtually no right hand. He leans in. And his chin seems to be up quite high a lot of the time. Would have to see more but he looks like he has a lot of flaws to me. The left hand looks very good and very fast. Reminds me a little bit of Breidis Prescott.
I see what your saying on what you feel his flaws are. He knew it was a piece of **** (the fight) he was just experimenting although some parts of his game were usual. I don't think he's anything like Prescott tbf....he's a upright orthodox long armed 4 round banger. Lara is skillful and fights lower and has more compact shots and is southpaw and has better technique.
I can pretty much only echo what others are saying, talented fighter who really needs to step it up in terms of competition in 2011. That, and until about 4 days ago I thought Delray Raines was black
Erislandy Lara, along with Korobov, are two guys that are lauded that I'm not particularly fond of as prospects. Something is missing.
