Boonleang was the fighter in the black shorts?

Great fight! Example of a elbow clinic/ great counterstriking. Can we assume this fight was stopped on cuts?

Yeah, the dark blue shorts, visually almost a twin of his brother but not quite as good in the ring.

Yep stopped on elbows. Shame the quality of the clip isn't great cos those cuts look nasty and to get a fight like that stopped in the 90s on cuts they must have been pretty bad. :yuck

a favourite of mine. real power puncher with great elbows. Khem doesnt fight to win by decision. his opponent Sudsakorn is also a very good fighter I posted his fight vs Attachi Fairtex (another very good fighter) some pages back.

This is a good fight for Khem, in the 21st Isuzu tournament last year.

I think he would have a good shot of beating Petro in a rematch under FTR.

Khem's a bit of a human wrecking machine. An entertaining fighter for sure an ATG maybe only time will tell.

I know he's kicked alot of foreign arse, but that isn't always a good bench mark. And remember he's in one of the higher weight categories for a Thai, slightly less internal competiton but I know he has beaten a load of good Thais to.

This is going to sound nuts, but I'm sure you guys understand what I mean when I say he's no natural fighter in the sense of some of the true ATGs Samart etc. Those guys at times were so comfortable in the ring against top fighters they could be wearing slippers, you don't get that sense form Khem when he's fighting Thais.

He's a great fighter sure but limited techincally, mechanical, and doesn't seem to dominate Thais in the same way he dominates foreigners. He doesn't seem to postion himself well just comes forward like Coban but without that little bit of thought (thats why he took so many elbows in the two clips), but that being said he does take opportunities well. I love his elbows, I really enjoyed the double elbow combo form the 2nd clip. But what about the elbow put on him in round 3 of clip 1 :fire!!! But to his credit he got up and fought on well, a real champ.

Maybe I'm being too harsh, he'd kick my arse!

He seems to get desperate at times, but the hands get him out of trouble. You know in Thailand hands score the least and some judges don't even score them at all so they tend to get used in desperation when a knock out is needed or by guys like Khem and Kongtranee as sickeners and finishers.

By the way as two of the clips are form Om Noi stadium, an interesting fact in the late 90s and early 2000s they used 6oz gloves. :yikes You can see form the size of the gloves things have changed.

By the way guys you've probabaly talked about this before, but how highly do you rate Petro? Can he really hack it against a top Thai under full Muay Thai rules? Was his win over Khem under full rules? When I 1st really noticed him was in the K1 MAX I think 2007 whn he won, I wasn't too convinced. Don't get me wrong, yes a top flight foriegn fighter but how good is he really?

I'm not so familiar with the current crop of top foreign fighters, just interested really.

Giorgio has fought in Thailand in full Muay Thai rules before.....If I remember correctly he´s 1 - 1 fighting out there....

The new 140 lbs Champion is a French guy named Damien Alamos...

Petro is the best kickboxer P4p alive today, and one of the best kickboxers to ever live. 71-1-02 against all the best opponents in his weightclass- very good competition perhaps not as good as it could have been had Petro fought in k1 max in the early or mid 2000s but I dont think thats his fault. For instance I dont think his two K-1 max gran prix wins were as vauable as Masato's, Buakaw's, or souwer's since they had to beat eachother who were all in there prime to gain the title for themselves. Petro only had to beat a broken sower( who Buakaw clearly beat in his previous match) to get the 2009 title. the 2010 k1 max tournament was not the same calibre gauntlet of years past.

His biggest obstacle in kickboxing is his fragile hands that he seems to break or injure every couple fights. As a result few ko's, since Gevorg hands are his main weapon (not to say he cant do damage with his kicks but petro has never been an exceptional kicker).

Petro was beaten his second time fighting in Thailand against Nonthanan Por. Pramuk. No video. The other time he fought in Thailand was against Petch and we have video: [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bv7Woq1upVw[/ame]

petrosyan started his career as a muay thai fighter, but fought all his top Thai opponents in Italy under Kickboxing rules Naruepol, Khem, Sudsakorn, Cosmo. except Buakaw who he fought to a draw also under kickboxing rules in Sweden. Petro was green, only 21, and fought prime buakaw to a draw (should have been a loss for petro but a very competitive one).

As it turns out Gevorg is a better kickboxer than thai fighter: I have never seen him do anything in the clinch, Cosmo was winning there, sudsakorn was as well, but under kickboxing rules the ref separates them quickly and I doubt it scored much points for his opponents if any at all. Petro does have a good straight knee which he times well mixed in with punches, but like I wrote isnt very active inside. and buakaw in their fight clearly outclassed Gevorg with kicks.

I really dont blame Petrosyan for not competing in thailand any more after he lost to Nonthanan. He must have made the decision that FTR were not for him and he certainly made the right choice. however, fighting very good thai boxers in your backyard (khem, sudsakorn ect) under your rules doesnt get you much respect IMHO.

Well your last sentence Yaca confims my hunch, overrated and not a Muay Thai fighter in any real sense. Seems to have had some lucky breaks and good timing in his career. For example that 2009 robbery of Buakaw that let him advance and go on to win the Worldmax. (Sorry I said 2007 couldn't remember which year).

That clip from Thailand is pretty average at best. He's fighting a retired fighter 2 weight classes lighter, out of condition who seems to take a dive in the end! Petro's technique is'nt great, he's way too tensed up the whole time and seems to lack power with anything. His hands seem good but his kicks feel pinched. I agree Yaca fighting Thai guys in your back yard under kickboxing rules is big time bogus. What's the point of fighting Thais under KB rules? It's like boxing in Mexico and saying no body shots allowed! :nono

I remember around 1991 I was living in the USA for short time, I had a bout in Richmond, Virginia against a kickboxer KB rules (very few Muay Thai fighters in the USA back then) shin and boot pads, above the waist only kicks, no knees, no elbows, no clinches, no grabbing legs, no nothing! Needless to say I lost the fight cos I just couldn't do anything! The ref deducted points twice cos the KB's karate styled kicks were so slow and weak I kept instictively catching them, holding them, pushing him back to follow with a low kick which I couldn't do cos off the rules. For a MT guy to fight KB rules is massively restricting, I don't think casual fans realise just how restrictive it is.

Now the French guy Almos is a different story he has the rhythm and style of Muay Thai fighter, good luck to him. He reminds me of a friend of mine, a very good Swiss boxer called Dado Irmici who beat alot of Thais and good Europeans like Mario Delaflorian in the late 90s and early 2000s. Very similar attitude and style. Although, is it just me or does the Thai look like he's not in great shape and giving some weight to the french guy? (Being a bit harsh I know, a bit of Devil's advocate :thedevil1).

I think is fair to say his opponent Kongfah (champion since 2008 ) was way past prime Boran.....and I´m not sure, but the 140 lbs seems a bit weak today....
I read somewhere that he had good matchmaking as well, to get the title shot......

    Great post Yaca :good

This is very interesting..because even with that considered many Thai fighters
still do very well in International Boxing rules.....how they do that ? It´s very surprising if you think about it.....

what do you guys think of Aikpracha Meenayotin(also spelled Ekpracha)?
    This content is protected

he is currently the lumpinee 147lb champ, and Thailand champ, 2x winner of toyota tourney (2010 & 2011). when buakaw left por pramuk and disappeared. it was Aikpracha who stepped in to replace buakaw to face Fabio Pinca. if buakaw did not withdraw I belive he would have beat Pinca, but I dont know if he would have completely outclassed Pinca the way Aikpracha did. it was a very one sided fight.

I cant find a good quality vid of pinca vs Aikpracha so Ill post these vids instead :
