He returned to the ring to beat Russian Dmitry Chudinov to claim the WBA interim belt in February. Saunders, who is managed by ******, will not fight Eubank Jr with the WBA belt on the line because it will damage his position as the WBOs mandatory No.1 challenger for the injured Andy Lees world title. But Eubank senior says ****** needs to find a compromise so the fight can happen. He said: Chris Eubank Jr has worked for ten years to win the opportunity to contest his first world title, albeit interim. Demanding that he gives up his hard earned championship and belt, is asking him to disrespect all of the hard work he has done, as well as give up his number two position to challenge for Gennady Golovkins WBA super-championship title. What has been inferred is that the WBA interim belt he holds means little or nothing and can be easily given up, yet in truth it represents what he has worked so hard for and means everything to him. The fighters want this rematch as much as the public but to ask junior to give up a belt because the WBA and WBO cannot work together or agree on a way forward, is neither fair nor just. It is something that the public should be made aware of and that the fighter and his management team are not held accountable for. Eubank senior insists they still want the fight to go ahead. He said: Team Eubank were not the ones to walk away from this fight and even offered to pay an official fee to the controlling bodies to have this fight for no titles, but we have been informed by Frank ****** & Co. that this is not yet possible or sanctioned. There has to be a way that this much demanded rematch can take place, and we are more than willing, ready and able to make this happen with the only exception being giving up the existing WBA belt.
I think to have the rematch now would be a bit to early IMO - I would rather Eubank get some more experience elsewhere and Saunders maybe faces decent opposition whilst waiting for the Lee title shot. The. All being well for both they can meet late this year or next year. As for Eubank Snr he doesn't half talk some nonsence that WBA belt is completely worthless.
Too early for a rematch. Rematch will always be on regardless of each fighters future performances and with the possibility of world title/more money on the line.
