As it seems lots of biased guys from the US seem to be all over Toney. Calzaghe would school Toney, just like he schooled Hopkins and Jones. The facts done lie.

Both fighters had off nights during hectic schedules.

Chris has admitted that Schommer should have gotten the decision, and many people think that he lost to Ray Close.

It would have been a great match up. Both had off nights during hectic schedules, but I'm going to assume that both guys would have been the best they could have been out of respect for each other.

Eubank had a great win over Roch in Germany in 94, and Toney had a great win over Tim Littles.

I think it would have been quite a dull fight, with Toney just edging it on points, unless he'd have had no respect for Eubank and he'd struggled to shed a lot of weight beforehand.

Chris wanted no part of Roy while he had his belts at SMW. He openly admitted he was content to just fight his mandatories.

He only started calling Roy out after he'd been beaten by Collins when Roy was at LHW. At that point he had nothing to lose and everything to gain. But I don't think he was really serious. I think he was just trying to stay relevant and cash out before he retired.

I think it's quite clear Toney was the better fighter.

    This isn't a mythical matchup.

    It's a discussion about 1994.

I like Chris in the upset.

Decision of course. But this is one of those guys I just don't see Toney getting up 100% for. Would not happen. He'd look at the tape of the guy and figure there's no way that wide right hand is hitting me. So guess what, he under prepares.

And Eubank comes in at 100%. Toney with his B game is not beating this guy.And it would become a footwork fight and James would be a step behind all night and be posing in ring center doing a John Mugabi footwork fight. But the other guy would not oblige.

Toney is overrated on this forum, that is a fact. Calzaghe is underrated on this forum, another fact.

Toney was a great fighter, but Calzaghe was superior. Defence doesn't always win you fights. Hopkins vs Calzaghe is an example of this. :good

    What FACTS?

Since when did Joe school Bernard Hopkins? He scr*ped a decision against him. It was quantity vs quality in a horrible fight.

He schooled Roy? What, a near 40 year old Roy, who Joe had said he didn't want to fight because it was pointless due to Roy being shot? He schooled Roy who'd been destroyed twice over four years earlier?

    Great!

If you think Joe would have schooled Toney, that's your opinion and not a fact.

I'd like to read your reasoning for thinking that Joe would have schooled him. We know Toney had off nights and wasn't disciplined. But we also know that Joe had off nights too, and we also know that despite what a great fighter he was, he was always relatively easy to hit.

Before you start proclaiming an easy victory for Joe, may I remind you that Joe struggled against Reid and Bika and was dropped by the likes of Salem and Mitchell. He also looked awful against the likes of Starie and Thornberry. There were lots of fighters who he didn't school, who were nowhere near Toney's level.

You need to go and establish what the word 'fact' means.

Since when was Joe superior to Toney?

    Give me a break.

In fitness and dedication, sure. But nothing else.

    Great post Z.

If we assumed both fighters were 100% fully fit, fighting to their full capabilities, then I think you'd have to go with Toney. But like you say, realistically he might have shrugged his shoulders when the fight was signed and underprepared and underestimated him. Whereas Chris would have no doubt had a huge amount of respect for him as a fighter, and would have trained like a demon. So it's more than possible that Eubank could have beaten him. It would have been very interesting. But as soon as anyone mentions Toney fighting a fantasy fight at SMW, I'm looking at the Barkley or Littles versions of him.

    So did Toney retire undefeated?
Was Toney the Ring champion at Super middleweight and Light Heavyweight?
    Did Toney beat Jones?

The answer to all of the above is no for Toney, and yes for Calzaghe. I assure you that what I have written is a fact. If you can't understand what facts are, then you're in the wrong place buddy.
