    I wonder what his quality of life was like and how much his family struggled to take care of him. Maybe a blessing he passed.

    There's a good reason why rabbit punches are illegal. Max Baer once killed an opponent with a rabbit punch.

    Watch the fight. Terrell Williams stopped him with a deliberate rabbit punch, the last of many he threw during the fight. It was in plain site for the referee, who should have never been allowed to work another fight.

    Heartbreaking. Had his whole life in front of him, but one night doing what he loved changed all of that. And it's a cruel reminder of just how brutal and barbaric this sport can be. Rest easy.

    Unfortunately these kind of incidents seem to be occurring quite often

    Truly heartbreaking tragic story. Very sad for his family. Can't believe he was in an awful state for such a long after that fight took place in 2015. In a way this was a relief that he finally got put to rest.

    Just another reminder just how dangerous, tough and brutal this sport is.

    Utterly tragic. My thoughts go out to Colon's family and friends. Some days I hate this ugly sport.

    Hate this… This happened at a venue that was very close to me, that fighters from our gym competed at several times.

    I didn’t watch this show live, and I’m glad I didn’t. My coach did and he was telling me about this fight, the **** refereeing, before Colon’s condition was known… Referee had a bad rap locally anyway.

    May he rest in peace and praying for strength and comfort for his family, this is honestly very hard hitting for me… makes me not even want to be involved with the sport any more.

    It was already such a sad and tragic story as it is. Awful and still so young at 33 but his life was destroyed at 23. RIP, champ

    'Most boxing fans think Prichard was in a persistent vegetative state, but I stumbled on an article by the Washington Post from 2019 that shows he was actually much more aware than most of us realized.

    It’s behind a paywall but I’ll summarize the key points.

    - He was able to answer questions using a computer; he knew his name, his former profession, his age, and the current year. However that was on a good day, on bad days he still thought it was 2015 and that he was a healthy 23 year old. He would get confused by the wheelchair and feeding tube so his mother and therapist would have to tell him what happened.

    - He enjoyed watching his old fights, and even watched the fight with Williams. Apparently his eyes widened and his face trembled. When asked if he had seen enough he gestured no, but they turned it off anyway. His mother eventually caught him watching it again but he didn’t want her to turn it off so she just left the room.

    - He accomplished feats that surprised the people around him such as nodding, making verbal sounds, using his eyes to let the monitor speak for him, and even took a couple steps with assistance.

    Edit: I wanted to add this story.

    - He never lost his competitive spirit. During physical therapy he grew close with a young man named Drew, like Prichard he was a former athlete who suffered a traumatic brain injury.

    They would sometimes train together and the physical therapist would use Drew to get Prichard more motivated. The most notable story was during a very difficult session where Prichard was strapped into a large, supportive walker. He was exhausted and his legs wouldn’t budge.

    The physical therapist caught his eye and asked him, ”Don’t you know Drew can already do this?”. Upon hearing that Prichard took a deep breath, leaned forward, and successfully forced his body to take a step, and then another. Upon seeing his achievement in a nearby mirror he blew himself a kiss.'

    Very sad, unfortunately these injuries linger beneath the surface and it's difficult to tell just how bad it is until it's too late.

    I love the sport but tragedies like this are a stark reminder of the risks and danger involved

    I have followed Colon's story since his injury. I saw him fight Harris in Toronto, the only pro boxing event I have ever seen live.

    I remember watching his fight and thinking how cool it must be to be an up and coming young fighter. The whole world at his feet and so much opportunity, and big nights, ahead of him. What an amazing life to live being a young pro athlete...

    His next fight was the Williams bout which shattered his future.

    It bothered me seeing such a bright future snuffed out like that in one night. It reaffirmed to me not just how dangerous boxing is but also how unfair and cruel life can be. Health should not be taken for granted.

    Tragedies like this is why I get irked whenever someone calls another fighter a "bum". Anyone who steps in the ring is already risking their lives no matter if they're top tier fighters or journeymen level. A fighter can have a promising career but all it takes is one fight, one unfortunate circumstance, and one tragedy to quickly change all that.

    Can’t believe I almost forgot about him. It was heartbreaking when he fell ill 11 years ago, It’s heartbraking now.
