    It wasn't successful but when JCCjr caught Sergio Martinez in the 12th round. It was a complete blowout up to that point.

    Following a knockout loss to George Foreman in Madison Square Garden, top ten contender Boone Kirkman won 10 consecutive bouts including former WBA Heavyweight Champion Jimmy Ellis


    On April 9, 1974, Kirkman (32-2) fought Memphis "Al" Jones (6-20-2) in what Kirkman considered a "tune-up fight" for a postponed fight with Ken Norton (who had opted out of their fight to fight Foreman for the world title). The fight with Jones was stopped abruptly when Kirkman, having knocked Jones down four times in the first two rounds, was knocked unconscious by an overhand right from Jones in the 3rd.
