Its more difficult than you think for Sky to just change the channel at 10 days notice. they will have already sold advertising space for the shows of sky sports 1, 2 and other sky channels. most of ringside is recorded on wednesday and thursday morning. also the decision might not be 100% yet.
I said Sky One - as in the main channel. It means virtually **** all the difference between the four sports channels but Sky One has a pretty big audience reach now. And I'd imagine its easier to reschedule that than Sky Sports given that it rarely has first run program on at the weekend (so for instance this weekend it has Bev Hils Cops II on). I mean Sky have made the right decision but if I'm Khan I'd be pretty pissed off about this. At the moment he's basically been asked to give up a bag full of cash for no upside.
Sky is for poofs! real lads have dream boxes and motorised dishes and can watch any premiership game they want at 3pm on a saturday and have about 3 million channels to choose from.:good
like i said sky will have already sold ad space for the channels even if its for an 80s movie. Khans should be annoyed at his **** team not sky. also putting it on sky1 would mean non sky sports subscribers can access the event. sky don't want that.
Fair play to Sky this is a very brave and potentially dangerous move on their part not that Khan has any alternatives. I feel a bit for McCloskey as he is the one who will get hurt from this move, all the sudden his big money purse has likely gone. But this is something of a statement of intent from Sky, hopefully they will continue with this mentality for all their Boxing because it really would make for a huge change for the better.
I don't see how its a dangerous move. it send a message to the promoters. Khans, Hattons etc all get ****ed by this but for sky its win-win.
I personally think this would be better off on Sky Sports 1, the channel has a bigger reach so not only would Khan get greater exposure (even if it was minimal) and they would get more advertising money. I will be very interested to see what the viewing figures for this fight are.
It's a dangerous move because the purses for Khan and McCloskey will be significantly reduced and if one of them spit their dummy out they could have no fight what so ever and a lot of wasted money on their hands.
sky should be looking to get around 250k plus viewers for this fight. thats what mitchell vs katsidis got. regular sky shows get around 100k viewers and PPV's generally out-do that.
