Zuniga gets an elimintor at 160, and vacates his IBO title at 168. The opponent gets injured in training camp, thereby ELIMINATING HIMSELF!!!!! The IBF fails to appoint another opponent, and fails to enforce Zuniga as the Mando. Arthur fights a voluntary against Elvyn Ayala.
Correction: Belts that don't allow the fighters to fight the best competition don't deserve the fighter. The solution is simple: IBF just mandates that the winner has 3 months to do the mandatory. Then they keep their mando happy AND collect a fee for Clottey/Cotto. If Cotto wins and doesn't want the fight, strip then. But doing it over this technicality looks petty AND is bad business.
its still ****ing stupid as ****... IBF should have let him hold it... Issac Hlatswayto is a ****ing nobody
First off, why are they blaming a WBO champ. He has his own belt and all was agreed to unify. Why is the IBF so preoccupied for Cotto to sign when Clottey has signed the nessasary paperwork. I know it is a contract, but come on with your late so we have to strip Clottey. I knew this was going to happen. We will never get a unified WW for a while. They will keep producing interim champs and super champs, it is rediculous.
Cintron was his mando and Clottey agreed to fight him in Feb. Unfortunately, Cintron backed out to fight Martinez. I can't really blame Clottey on this one. Even with all that, he would still have his title if the paperwork on Cotto's end came in earlier.
The championship belt is just an accessory & bargaining chip anyway. As long as it don't effect the fight being scheduled for 12rds... F the IBF
