I feel the fight should be held outiside, in pouring rain with thunder and lightning striking in unison with the telling blows

:rofl OH NO! I'm not accusing Liston of being a child molester. But thinking about it deeper If an adult has friends that have kids then befriending they're kids would not be creepy. Sorry if this thread swayed in the direction you didn't want it to amigo:hi:.

Im aware of peter keenan, likewise his trip to the uk and ireland as he stayed with a well known boxing family i know in belfast. Ive no doubt hes met and was friendly with peter keenan snr and jnr. I just thought it sounded a little twee to me about the school and that. I didnt know it was mentioned in 'Night Train' as i bought the book, lent it to me da who in turn lent it to someone else so,as a consequence, i havent read it meself. Im sure theres quite a lot of truth in it

wrote that last post without reading the rest. I wasnt intimating that listons relationship with the young fella was creepy, rather endearing to tell the truth. Im sure Liston related to the people in glasgow and Belfast as there was still a lot of poverty about. Maybe not as bad as liston had it but not far off. Its just that i got the impression that a nice story got embellished a bit with the Ali fight and the school phonecall, no disrespect to all parties concerned

I think he could have beaten Clay,it was the way the fight ended that makes people suspicous of it and with good reason. This is a nice story.Ive always thought Liston cant have been as horrible as people make him out to have been.

I have that magazine and article too.

The bit of the story about Liston phoning the kid and telling him he threw the match in Miami is obviously bull****. "One day you will need to tell the world, Petesie" or whatever he said. C'mon, it's clearly bollocks.

You dont throw a fight under threat of death and then go tell a little kid about it ! And hope that little kid will keep it secret and then reveal it to the world long after you're gone. It's an absurd story.

For a month straight I would watch these as I went to bed.

GreatA is a legend for them!
