What I'm saying is that this was not among the greatest feats of Charles's career. When you see Charles-Satterfield on paper, what do you honestly expect to happen?

All Satterfield had was a puncher's chance and he did get Charles in big trouble early on until inevitably walking into the big punch. He was too wild, inconsistent and barely trained, fortunately for him he was blessed with a terrific punch which won him some fights.

When Satterfield boxed, he could actually box fairly well but as you can see in the above video, boxing was not what he was doing. He was recklessly slugging and begging to get countered as soon as Charles was able to recover from the early onslaught.

It was a dramatic KO of a dangerous fighter by a faded but still dangerous ex-champ ... a win filled w drama.

I agree to most of this. I just think even in light of the times bob was stopped satterfeild still produced better credentials than a lot of charles's chalengers when he was the actual champion.

Among charles's chalengers satterfeild did fight bob held his own with maxim, beat nick barone and knocked out oma. He was better than beshore and valentino.

whats wrong with saying charles's win over satterfeild is more impresive than most of his title fights?

its as impresive a charles win as any that were filmed. charles was sharp enough to execute a great KO. trust your eyes.

Faded fighters do not record KO wins at world level. It was no fluke.

same thing. Satterfield was really going for it in their fight, IMO Satterfield would have beat a lot of fighters with those kind of attacks that night but Charles executed a well timed KO. It is very impressive film and IMO a more exciting fight than all of his title fights. Remember Charles was called a cheese champion, he did not get good write ups at all. He could have done with a performance like this as champion.

Please explain how a win over Bob Satterfield is better than wins over Joe Louis and Jersey Joe Walcott.

    It is more exciting.

when Charles beat Louis the retired champion was coming off a long lay off, 27 months. when charles beat walcott he was coming off a knock out loss and had not fought for 12 months. first time they fought walcott had not beat a rated fighter for 2 years. second time walcott was also coming off a loss. yes, charles won those fights and we look back now and realise these were difficult wins but they excited nobody at the time.

satterfeild was red hot, on a KO streak at the time and an active, world level rated contender. Charles must have been considered one of the best fighters in the world at that moment.

I agree with you. dosnt make charles v satterfeild any less impresive of a win does it?

ali beat Liston (who beat big cat williams) but a lot of people say Ali looked best against big cat williams.
