Tyson would decimate Charles in a round. A LHW who likes to come inside against Tyson? Good luck with that
Yup, & while I do not pick prime Holyfield over late '80's Tyson, WITH the PEDS & holding he has a chance. Charles would not have the firepower, mobility at HW....Absolutely nothing against him as a tremendous fighter.
It's an interesting fight. Outcome is a tko, one way or another. You'd favor Tyson, of course. And if he gets the win, it'd be a nice ko result. but I can also see Mike not preparing 100% for a guy like this and thinking Charles has no chance. So I think there is a distinct possiblity we'd get that Tyson with his B game and not his A game. His A game might see a 4-1 favorite but that B game turns it into a far more competitive and compelling fight. I'm certain Ezzard would be at his best. My biggest concern would be the other guy. The longer it goes, the worse it is for Tyson. If it gets to the 7th round, that means Ezzard has solved him. And Tyson is in major trouble against this opponent if he's solved.
If Charles could weather the early storm, he would have a chance. Remember, he took everything Marciano had to offer in the first fight.
Anyone picking any version of Charles over a prime Tyson needs a lobotomy. Just how the hell would he keep him off? Nonsense.
slight edge to Tyson, but not sure Tyson fought anyone like ezzard until he faced holyfield (although Tyson postprison was only going through motions).
Charles wasn't a blown up light heavyweight in his prime...he WAS a light heavyweight fighting heavyweights in his prime lol.
Charles was a Light Heavyweight in his prime. Even as a HW, he was small compared to Tyson Tyson by mid rounds stoppage
Tyson by mid rounds stoppage. Tyson stopped bigger, tougher, more skilled HWs than Charles. Charles was at his best as a LHW.
Charles didn't brawl he didn't attack in straight line rather he circled to the left around his opponents. Plus he hooked of the jab, not typical for a brawler.
You have to assume Tyson would mow him down. Ezzard needs luck on his side, and he has to be the sharpest he's ever been to avoid the deadly punches in the first half of the fight.
Let's be honest here. Charles is good enough to envision under the right situation lasting the distance and possibly frustrating Tyson for a Dec. win or close loss. Yes, it's possible and Charles is that good. However, what is more likely to happen more times than not, is for Tyson to end the fight at some point before 5 imo. I'm not one to say Tyson would just blow him out because I feel like a young Tyson could be frustrated and outboxed at times. Charles would be the best boxer he ever faced really, though a few might be argued one way or the other. I just think it wouldn't happen too often.
I agree with this, but it was usually bigger fighters that would sometimes have success outboxing Tyson or surviving the distance, and they would do it with a lot of clinching and running. Charles was a light heavyweight and wouldn't be able to take Tyson's shots for 12 rounds.
