The defence one is interesting, as nearly everyone is choosing Pea. Obviously Whitaker's defence is certainly more varied and much more flashy, but it might be fair to say Mayweather gets hit just as rarely if not more so that Whitaker. I guess it depends on how you define this.
So many categories. I tend to agree with a ring article, that Whitaker would Outmayweather mayweather. As superb as moneys defense is I think Whitaker would make mayweather look stupid. Mayweathers never faced a better version of himself. Mayweather throws more lead left hooks than he does jabs no? Anyway a slick southpaw who always faced the bestpossible opposition. I have to give Whitaker the edge in every category except one punch power
Their infighting ability is even? Really? Mayweather was getting getting bossed around by Jose Luis Castillo and even Ricky Hatton for a while there on the inside. Meanwhile Whitaker was putting the beats on Julio Cesar Chavez on the inside. Nor can I see how body punching could be even. Whitaker put on some masterful body punching displays (Haugen, Diaz, Brazier, McGirt I) . I've never seen Mayweather do anything close to such work. He does have a great jab to the body, but other than that his body punching doesn't stack up to Whitaker's.
I've seen Mayweather display decent body punching ability against the lesser opponents he has faced, but he rarely commits to the body against the best opponents he has faced. The same can't be said for Whitaker who surely made an impact on every opponent he fought with his body punching. Even gave Chavez a taste of his own medicine at parts.
