Why real fans would even give this a second thought, is beyond me...It's like: who hit more home runs in batting practice.
I agree JG, sparring is sparring. But it is still intriguing to hear some stories of whats previously gone on, for me anyway.
Not really a beatdown but the sparring between gman and lights out is amazing think its at the kronk and I think toney pretty much played with g man
The infamous one round Tyson/Holyfield sparring session around 83-84, ive read two accounts if this. The first is from Tyrell Biggs (who apparently used to batter Bowe in sparring, according to Rock Newman) who said Holyfield got the better of Tyson. Holyfields own book says both went at it like a real fight and people had to jump in and stop the fight and they were banned from sparring with each other again. There was no 'winner' as such
Great thread - I thought it was this thread but it must have been another, but I heard an interview with Georges St. Pierre of UFC fame, where he said he had been tapped out a bunch and knocked out a few times while training/sparring. He said this usually happened because he was practicing something new. I have to imagine some of this is true in some of these sparring stories. I'm sure boxing is difference than practicing a new MMA strategy, but I'd imagine some guys have a more laidback approach in sparring or just working on one thing and therefor get caught by guys who more often that not in these stories amount to a lot less (professionally) than the guy who got caught. Still, keep the stories coming, they give a cool insight that a lot of fans don't get to see.
Imagine all the compelling sparring tales between such beloved and famous fighters... Boxing fans would ejaculate if they could be a fly on the wall for some. Scully confirmed that Edison Miranda KO'd Chad Dawson days before Dawson fought Ward.
Tony Tubbs reportedly floored Gerrie Coetzee, and Milton McCrory got the best of Mike McCallum back in the day.
