One esteemed poster says his heart wasn't 100% in boxing anymore after King totally ripped him off in Nelson 1 and the drive that had been so instrumental to his notable success had died. Fenech himself has all sorts of excuses, mostly something to do with the doc pre fight accidentally putting a needle clean thru his hand (or something like that) as well as being on some sort of heavy meds he should not have been. From memory he claimed he was so weak his hands were slipping from his handlers shoulders walking to the ring. By the Grove fight he had lost all of his ability to take any sort of punch. God knows. Fenech was one bad motherfukker, some of the people he is still involved with are some of the baddest pricks in Australia.
Fenech gets mssively overlooked these days. He beat some very good fighters on his way up to 126. he was one of the true greats of the 1980s IMO.
He'd have been game and pretty competitve for sure, but I see a similar senario to yourself (ie: late-ish stoppage) whilst Nelson's a few points up on the cards. :good Barry was a good fighter at his best, impressive win against a faded but still reasonably game Pedroza to win the title, but his heart simply wasn't in it after that shock defeat against Cruz (2nd title defence). This content is protected *Nice hobbie, though. An interest of his that I share. :good
People just look at Fenech as a volume puncher/brawler but he was a pretty smart and savvy fighter. He deserved his HOF spot. I think he would beat a ton of very good fighters at 122. I dont want to even bring up Gomez though...painful just thinking about it.
I had Buster Douglas knockout Boxing for the megadrive. :happy So far as I know it's still up there in the roofspace somewhere, must dig it out sometime for the craic.
The Evander Holyfield Real Deal boxing was my favourite on megadrive. Enjoyed Ready to Rumble on 64 for a little while but it got old quick.
I remember the first time I saw an Amiga and it had the Rocky game on it; I just could not believe that Clubber looked like Mr T, Rocky like Stallone and Drago like Dolf!!!!!!!!!!
The Buster Douglas and Evander holyfield games on the Megadrive (Genesis for our US friends) were essentially the same game, but with different boxers in it. The new Fight Night should be good.
