he has to lose 5 pounds, if he had eaten rcently thats about a pound and another juat by taking a ****, 5 pounds is nothing for these guys, unless he's already been starvjng himself which i doubt

Depends. It's easy until it's not, dumb as that sounds. Sometimes the 4 pounds melts off easy and the last pound is brutal.

It's not a big enough deal yet to act like he's unprofessional as the OP did because the pendulum could swing either way- he could make it pretty seamlessly or, being young and very big at the weight, he'll run into a wall somewhere in that last 5 that'll kick his ass. Too soon to tell either way.

Don't think this should be a huge deal tbh. Though I think he should stop saying he's comfortable at 154 and just move up. Sad there's now GGG fight :(

I rarely defend Canelo, but 5 pounds out with a week to go is NOTHING. Golov was 5 pounds out the week before the Lemieux fight and made the weight easily. I dunno why people forgot that so quickly, as it was only last month. Golov was 165 at the 7-day weigh-in.

If Canelo weighed about 163-164 at this point, THAT would be cause for concern.

He only has to lose 0.2 lbs to make weight. What's the problem here, it's for the Middleweight title right?! :conf

What you're saying makes too much sense, sadly.

It's technically for the lineal middleweight championship, but the CONTRACTED weight is 155. Meaning, neither guy is allowed to weigh over 155.

It's just a joke really. Catch weights are the single biggest cancer in the sport.

These joke ABC organizations have permitted Canelo and Cotto to create their own division.

Sure we've seen worse, but Canelo is obviously a huge light middleweight, and really a middleweight. He'll be 168 in the ring, but probably won't let HBO weigh him, just so he can say he's the same size as Cotto, and too small to fight GGG.

Like the WBC mentioned multiple times, if one fighter comes in to high for the contracted weight in a catchweight fight but still within the real weightclass limit, he still would be awarded the belt if he wins.
What's Cotto going to do? Call the fight off?

He'd be awarded the belt, but as per the contract I'm SURE Canelo would have give Cotto a huge chunk of $$$$ if he didn't make 155, and Canelo ain't trying to do that.

It's gonna be a mute point anyway, Canelo will make 155. 3-5 pounds out with a week to go is about standard.

Even 7 pounds over with a week to go is doable, Lemieux just did it.

If you're OVER 7 pounds out with a week to go, at that point it becomes alarming.

Now, if it was Tuesday or Wednesday and Canelo weighed 160, at that point I'd say it's doubtful he makes 155.

yeah, and Canelo would be stupid if he did, because then his whole negotiating/excuse tactic for not wanting to face GGG at 160 falls flat :yep

    That too!

What's hilarious is that for YEARS now Canelo has been coming into the ring at 170. And not a completely fat, outta shape 170 that we saw from Brandon Rios. A solid 170.

Golov traditionally comes into the ring at - you guessed it, a solid 170.

But poor Canelo, he's waayyyyyyyyyyy too small to challenge Golov.

Pretty sure losing 5 pounds on fight week is nothing for athletes who have to make weight.
