No, sorry for the lack of drama. I was backing up after a long day at work and was struggling to stay awake for the Jamie Moore fight in Wigan - six 2's of him nearly sent me over the edge. Thankfully the person sat next to me appreciated my predicament and woke me up prior to the chief supporting contest, which was quite good!
I watched him against Jack Arnfield. It was horrible. Mind you he's good at what he does if you get me.
Not many journeymen can say they have never been stopped..... but you have to hit someone first. For those with more in depth knowledge than me.... can someone be thrown out (DQ'd) for not trying? I remember a HBO discussion about defensive fighters, Whitaker, Jones and Mayweather in particular and they were analysing the % of punches landed on them by their respective opponents in world title fights.... Floyd's was lowest, then Whitaker, then Jones.... perhaps they ought to look at this clown!
It would be interesting to hear the views of different people, such as fans, promoters and fighters - because those that simply aren't trying and are, effectively hookers aren't contributing to the good of the sport. I know it is different, but in my rugby playing days I often knew that a team we would be up against was way inferior and that we were going to win heavily... there isn't any satisfaction attached to it at all - because everyone has already done it. If I were a 6-0 prospect matched against a 3-67-6 opponent I would be pretty pissed off and therefore undermotivated. Perhaps it is time (well it is IMO) for the sport to rid itself of the pretenders.... sport should be about competing to be the best.... not simply turning up, accepting a defeat and pocketing the cash. Becoming the first guy to stop Shane Mosley or Bernard Hopkins would be an achievement. Being the first to stop some pudding in the 1st round wouldn't.
These type of match-ups with characters such as Carl Allen, Peter Buckley etc are laid on just to guide the prospect through the early days of their pro careers...give them some ring time in front of a crowd. Everyone knows the score, as bad as Peter Buckleys record appears at first glance I would suggest that if anyone started to take liberties Peter would hand it back, I have seen it on several occasions. So long as no one trys it on, no one gets hurt.
Carl Allen has spanked some good fighters and only recently gave ESBs Tyrone Nurse a good tussle. You don't KO Dazzo Williams and drw with Lee Meager and former ABA finalist Colin Toohey if you can't fight.
I have seen Carl Allen on TV - but he actually tries to win. The ones that don't are the ones that really get on my nerves - because what is the point in being there?
