I'm sorry, I left out that equally great left hook that Jersey Joe clipped Ezzard Charles with. It too was a thing of beauty.
A fun moment no doubt but referee Joe Cortez should hang his head in shame for counting out Graham. He should of called for the doctor straight away.
Yes and no, we've seen people hit the floor totally unconscious then unbelievably rise before the 10 count. Incredible punch that tho, like a damn gunshot. Probably as scary a punch as i have ever seen.
Even if Graham had somehow crawled his way up, there is no way the fight continues; Cortez was lucky in that Graham was OK, but that may not of been the case, and I hope Cortez learnt from his case. I am a big fan of Richard Steele, but the one action that he did that annoyed me was with Barkley/HearnsI. I think some forget Hearns actually got up from them two punches (an example of your unbelivable rise comment), and what was worse, Steele let it continue! So Barkley landed another couple of shots and although that one single act did not leave Tommy in the state he is now, I think it did not help.
Yeah no serious damage was done to Hearns really, but could have been. Just rewatched it and a stoppage after the first KD would have certainly been defendable.
One punch and down for the count of ten with either hand. Mike Weaver did this in consecutive WBA HW Title bouts against Tate and Coetzee, coldcocking Tate with a hook and flattening Coetzee with a cross. That he carried this power into the championship rounds, in hostile territory, against larger adversaries, makes those clean knockouts all the more remarkable. As great as he was, Larry Holmes never put an opponent of that caliber down for ten seconds. Arturo Frias had a reputation as being featherfisted, and the record to support that belief. But when he knocked out Claude Noel, he nailed him with a straight right, as Noel was braced in a pair of stiff new shoes to deliver a right uppercut from long range, beating Noel to the punch. Kids, do not EVER attempt a lead right uppercut from outside, however picturesque it may be, and do not ever wear a pair of new boxing shoes into the ring without breaking them in first. Teo Stevenson's cannon of a cross produced many such endings. He could shoot a hapless victim halfway across the ring as if he had placed his hands on both shouders and shoved hard.
I always loved the one when Peden knocked out Nate Campbell while he was dropping his hands and showboating.
Marciano against Joe Walcott in the title fight in 1952...AND.....Ray Robinson against Gene Fullmer in 1957........I think the best right hand and left hand I've ever seen!!!
My favourite must be Curry's against McCrory. It wasn't a knockout, as McCrory managed to rise before being sent back down again. It doesn't awnser the specific question "favourite one punch knockouts", but rather knockdown.
That's a good one. :good I also like Tommy's demolition of Shuler in what is probably my favourite fight of his.
there's one that's often overlooked, that was matthew saad muhammad's 4th round knockout of lotte mwalle.he lifted his man off the canvas with a slashing long left uppercut cum hook, which left mwalle unconcious.devastating
