Fedor's most utilized weapons were low kicks to the lead leg, and a STRAIGHT right hand. Fedor also missed his share of wild shots, but he wasn't rushing forward with reckless abandonment. I don't know what this fight says about his future, it was against Monson, but it was what Fedor needed if hopes to get back on track. This was the type of fight Velasquez should have had after a year lay off.

Thanks for the link! A clinical and precise performance by Fedor vs a shopworn and sluggish Monson. I would love to see Fedor back in the UFC where there still would be abundant challenges for him. Even if Fedor is smallish for a HW there would be more catchweight fights potentially with fighters like Rampage and a maybe a second fight with Hendo for example. People who be intrigued by a matchup between two faded, ex-pride vets like Rampage and Fedor. M1 has this pipedream of co-promoting with Zuffa which will never happen so Fedor will continue fighting fringe talent over in M1.
That's the thing I don't udnerstand....why doesn't he want to go to the ground ? Nice to see Fedor use "new" weapon, with the straight right, I don't remeber seeing him using the strike that much. And the leg kick were nice too...after seeing Fedor traine with Hoost for soo long it was nice to see him using kick more consistently !!!
Monson is a very decorated grappler with ADCC wins. This is the first fight ive seen Fedor not follow his prey anywhere. A great measured win. Great TDD, those in the UFC who rely in their wrestling would be in big trouble. Apart from his Daniel Cormier fight, Jeff has strung together a pretty good bunch of wins of late. I dont think we are seeing a post Prime Jeff. Good that Fedor is outside the Zuffa influences, next stop is the NYE event in Japan against Satoshi Ishii.
Monson is clearly past prime he should retire not because of his performances but his back is absolutely shot he should retire as long as he is still able to walk
Yeah - it's too bad that the UFC won't let a guy slide back into the division when he's champion. It's unfortunate but it gives us a steady stream of the best fighters in the world fighting the best fighters in the world. No gimmes for anyone.
+1. If you want to be a champion in the UFC you must fight the next challenger. I like the system, even when it sets up for difficult fights after long layoffs. The same thing happened to Brock and Shogun. If you don't feel you can defend the title against the #1 contender you can always just give it up.
