http://www.mixfight.ru/news/2010/8/24/ Is in russian. But translates as: "With the recent news about the operation the elbow by Fabricio Werdum, a reporter asked Fedor site www.mixfight.ru to comment on this situation. Fedor Emelianenko: "Absolutely, I would like a rematch with Werdum. But as he was recently operated on, then as soon as this fight is unlikely to happen. This year, in November-December, I would prefer to meet in a cage with Alistair Overimom"
Very interesting. I hope that fight happens. Hell if Brett Rogers can lose a fight then get a title shot, then Fedor can too.
:good I was just about to post this, it's a cracking fight as I've said several times before on this forum. Strikeforce has some quality fighters, including some of the very best heavyweights in the world, but their title scene is a total mess - Werdum is out with injury, Rogers got a shot after losing to Fedor and Overeem didn't defend his title for two and a half years! To hell with the Strikeforce belt, let's just have the top heavyweights facing off. Make Overeem vs. Fedor and the winner can get Werdum when he returns. Everyone wins.
Totally agreed. Belts aren't needed in such small promotions. When I play WMMA, I just have my division fight whoever and there's no title challenger, simply a "man to beat". Lets say Fedor is the champ, Fedor would fight whoever, there's no challenger per say, but whoever beat him would be 'the man', and at the end of the year the current top fighter in the division would be voted the champion. But yeah, its too small for titles. I think Clay Guida won the lightweight title straight after losing a fight or something.
It is a quality fight BUT a champ having 2 fights versus guys coming off losses hurts the crowns credibility. It's a money fight but it makes sense.
Overeem is the most dangerous striker in MMA and also top 10 in kickboxing...but his Strikeforce title means nothing (Werdum is the real champion). and the 'guy' coming off the loss is Fedor, not some nobody.
I think an org always has to instil credibility in their champ or its a joke. You've got to have 5 faces of the org and those are the champs. The guy people are gunning for.
He is top 5 in HW kickboxing. Name someone who has done anywhere near that currently in MMA who can compete at that level now. Its Aldo, Overeem and Toney (lol).
He is Fedor but he still lost his last fight in quick time. Rogers was a good fight too but it simply sets a bad precedent. Fighters should be gunning for the champ. Simple as.
