Physical Trinidad had all the tools a welterweight boxer could ask for. Speed, power, technically sound, height, reach. But Roberto Duran was on another level as far as skills. Duran beat the hell out of Palamino and Ray Leonard, two fighters Trinidad possibly loses too. Esp Ray Leonard who'd stop Trinidad in my opinion. A Focused and in shape Duran would not only beat the hell out of Trinidad, but he'd stop him too.
Bump. I absolutely do not think it’s a good idea for Duran to fight as he did against Leonard in Montreal, Trinidad is better than Leonard at timing power punches and catching guys on the way in with damaging punches and combinations and Duran could rush Leonard because he knew the threat of him getting hurt on the way in wasn’t as high because Leonard doesn’t really time guys on the way in with devastating punches. He’d need to try to bait Trinidad so he can counter, I’m not even saying he should go on the backfoot, but he needs to do certain things, like feint, give a target and put his body in positions or do things to try and get Trinidad to commit, but give himself enough time and space to avoid so he can counter, he can’t afford to rush him here. An example of what I’m talking about would be the difference in how Nigel Benn approached the Eubank 1 fight compared to the rematch, he rushed Eubank, but realised he was just leaving himself to be timed, in the rematch, while still on the front foot, he was a step ahead of Eubank often because he was thinking about what would happen when he does certain things, he was doing certain things to bait Eubank and he knew what was coming when he did certain things, so he acted accordingly and took advantage, he was more aware of what Eubank would do and planned ahead so he could predict and time him rather than just leaving himself to be timed. The more economical approach of pressure fighting would work better against guys who can punch, but maybe not as mobile with the feet, whereas the rushing tactic works better against movers as they never really need to commit as they can just stay on the outside, so you need to take more risks.
