...for what it's worth, Nakatani (135lbs) has fought less but already beaten better guys than Verdejo's faced

Rikki Naito (130) is also ahead of Verdejo in terms of development

Can't help thinking, if the people in the know was as sold on him as some of the posters anointing him the next P4P king, wouldn;t they have stepped him up by now.

After all even the top 10 in this division aren't exactly a murders row.

Exactly - lightweight is pretty dreadful. Even if he lands a title shot in his 3rd or 4th year pro, so what?

As i have said many times. Verdejo will go as far as his chin lets him. The main problem is when he gets excited and starts throwing combinations, hes wide open, just like khan. If he has a beard, he will be a star

They on the same weight hope they fight in the future, glad to see some Japanese fighters making noise in those weight classes you don't see Him doing to much there in terms of of achievements like in the lower weights.

It says it all when Mickey Bey is an "I'm #1" on Boxrec.:lol:

In fact I'd probably favour the number 1's in the next 6 division (Uchiyama, Walters, Frampton, Yamanaka, Inoue & Gonzalez) to beat that clown head to head now.

Agreed. My only problem with him, for the record, is his wide open defense. If he is blessed with an iron chin, who cares about his defense?

If he can't take a great shot, though...his express train is going to crash, and hard.

In Puerto Rico much of boxers don't tend to have iron chins some had solid to good chins but genetically they are not (could be an exception) if a very hard shot is landed they can be koed.

Yes but even Cotto on the way up wasn't as easy to hit as Verdejo seems to be. It wasn't until he stepped up to Pinto & Torres level opposition that Cotto was ever hurt/down - that was after he was champ, 20-0 (17) and 24-0 (21).

You're a fan of Japanese boxing, I get it. Verdejo is a better prospect than Inoue and Maruta, I don't know the rest.

His defense and footwork is already better than Cotto's has ever been.

Thats right, just look at dulorme, solid skills but man, that chin. . . Danny g seems to be the only one who has a solid one. I just hope verdejo reacts well to the first big counter he gets
