Sounds like Toney is gangster / nutter / roider, all combined. Sure I heard Danny say Toney had threatened he'd shoot him at one stage or other....seriously.
Jambo, I don't dissagree with your posts, but I believe when Danny fought Beyer the first time he was a very good fighter with good power, that first fight looked like a mismatch and the way that the corner conducted themselves colminated in Danny making a stupid mistake which gave the Germans just what they were looking for. I believe that night a part of Danny died and then 2 fights later his corner through there own ego was neglegent and cooked Danny and he was never the same, who knows how far Danny would have gone but I still believe he farked his career.
Well lets see. When i say he didnt reach his potential (IMO), it doesnt mean i think he could have been heaps better. I just think with the right trainer he could have fine tuned his skills a little, particularly his defence. Just slight improvements in most aspects, along with better game plans would have seen him improve a little, therefore, reaching his potential. Ive never said he could have been elite. But he did win a world title, and he would be a fight most elite guys wouldnt want to risk. I disagree with u on his power. He was as heavy handed as any SM of his time and probably got more powerful at LH.
For who?......both are semi retired.....Briggs maybe back workin out.....it would be a great fight 5 months time I think.
Briggs over Green a few years back Ash , even now i would have a few quid on Briggs , Briggs was THE standout Aussie L/Heavy out of the two , ( No diss to Greenie as i though he was world class level also ) but its only now what with Adamek proving to be one of the better lads @ Cruiser that those two tight fights Briggsy had with him gets put into pespective .
Yep...I would go for Briggs 3 years ago and today....dont see the mismatch....Green is still young and will come back one day 4 Mundine 2....and his last fight he won a title. :huh
Saying that though Ash stinky finger probably has more knowledge as to what state Briggsy is in these days hence the Mismatch comment , Aussies is Briggsy shot or what ?
Aged 35 ish your probably right Rise , those two fights with Adamek were special though . i think Greenie will come back v Mundine money Dictates these things , last figure i heared being banded about was AUS $ 5 million .thats some purse in anyones book given the current economic climate .
Yeh, Briggsy is shot. He's had some health problems from what i understand, and was extremely ordinary when last sparring. Green would win comfortably. Would have been a great fight when both were in there prime, with Briggs probably winning.
I think he's doing well. His commentary is very respected here. Hopefully someone can tell us exactly what was wrong with him. From what i remember, his reflexes were really effected, and he was getting hit by guys in the gym he should never get hit by. I could have it a little wrong, so hopefully someone can confirm it. I do remember hearing that its what made him retire. Besides all that, i believe Briggs lost that killer instict he once had. He would have stopped Adamek in the first fight if he was as brutal as he was a few years earlier. I think finding peace within himself regarding some terrible things as a child took away his edge. So even without the illness, i think Green would have had too much mongrel for him. But a Briggs v Green fight prior to Adamek would have been unbelievable. Prime for Prime, i just have Briggs ahead.
Briggs adrenal system crashed however through therapy he now has it under control. He is fit as now working as a personal trainer on the Gold Coast, I read in a recent press release from Stuart Duncan who is now managing his brother that he is sparring twice a week with Nathan, so he can't be to far off the pace.
