Ike Williams spoke highly of him to me. Said Dawson was extremely difficult in a tussle.

I always liked him in 'Top Rank fights of the 70s'.

Maybe its a nostalgic thing what with bein a kid, no internet then and the only way to see these fights was if you were lucky enough to know someone who had friends in the US who would video record the shows and post them over.

It took someone special to keep Dawson from a world title.

Ike Williams was very special. You are very lucky to have known him.

by the time I got really into boxing, Ferdie was doing commentary on showtime championship boxing. One time I was watching the spanish channel " telemundo" and heard a familiar voice speaking in spanish. Sure enough it was the fight doctor. I always liked Ferdie. Great commentary, good analyst and seemingly a nice guy or at least from a public perspective.

Pretended to care about Ali but rode the gravy train with the best of them...

I didn't like him as a commentator, and he came across as a real smug ******* in the Thrilla documentary.

Sometimes it seemed like he didn't really know much about boxing, and was only there because he was Ali's doctor. For instance, he claimed during Whitaker-Chavez that "Whitaker is fighting just like Meldrick Taylor". Sure, if you mean "fast black guy who won gold in 1984". Taylor out worked Chavez and took a beating in doing so. Whitaker used movement and all sorts of angles. There's other instances, I just can't think of them right now.

I never read his autobiography, but one of the boxing magazines, maybe KO or The Ring, they reviewed it. They said that he actually claimed that boxing became more safe and humane because of him.

No doubt Pacheco got free rooms and travel but he did not charge Ali for his medical services. And he walked away when it was apparent Ali was not as he should be.

Lennox Lewis was so boring and basically Captain Obvious. It was funny when he would mispronounce words or mix them up. Listening him try to say "athleticism", or him saying "a lot of good basketball players play basketball".

It was great when Max Kellerman called him out on his BS. When Bika did something dirty against Calzaghe, and Lewis, who hit Mike Acey 3 times when he was down, claims "I wouldn't have done that". Max says "Michael Grant would disagree". Then long awkward silence, and Lewis goes "no comment"

I hated the way he pronounced "strength." When he said it, it came out "strenth." What the &%$# is that? Who says that?

Yeah, what the hell was that all about?

After the reporter stated something obvious, saying Manila is an unusual place for a big fight like Ali-Frazier, he replies "Are you in boxing..:do you know anything about boxing?".

Maybe he was all medicated up.

Ferdie is an alright guy. the bad one was Cosell, riding on the coatails of Ali N Leonard. Here he was calling big fights and wasnt even a fan of the sport

Even Ali resented his fame for being associated with Ali
