I dont give a **** if you "claim" to follow boxing for 50+ years, to call a prime Vargas ordinary is a stupid thing to say.

If prime Vargas was at 154 today, there'd be no Alvarez's, Lara's, or Williams's near the top.

Vargas was slow, especially compared to Sergio. He was WIDE open for shots his entire career and he did not have world class power. I think Sergio is a terrible style match up for him. Sergio UD.

Because anyone who actually watched boxing during the Vargas / Tito / ODLH / Mosely / Quartey era would know that Martinez doesn't compete with that group. At all. Any of them. It wasn't a fluke when Margo beat him, prime Margo is just better than Martinez. He'd probably beat him if they fought tomorrow. Vargas would bully Martinez all night long, and unless Sergio lands some eyes closed freak show shot right on the chin he probably wouldn't even have any good moments in the fight, it would just be a run of mill fight where Vargas steadily walks him down, hurting him and more likely than not stopping him. Tito would just absolutely molest Sergio.

Martinez is the most overhyped fighter since Billy Fox.

vargas also got groomed too early. he was still a spring chicken when he fought oscar and tito.
5 years ago half of the people here never knew who sergio was..and he was 6 years older than vargas then!

People are underestimating the ****out of Vargas.Martinez is good, but to say that he Blasts Vrgas away or shuts him out is ludacris. Vargas had a Great chin, above average power, and good speed. Only reason Tito Knocked him down in the first is because he landed that hook from hell, picture perfect. that hook would've Ko'd many others and he still gave tito hell and lasted till the 12th round.

Martinez too quick for Vargas and has enough power to get his respect. Martinez by close but clear decision, Vargas was no joke and would rule the current LMW class with ease. Aside from Martinez I can't see anyone from 154-160 beating him.
