It's very surprising that pac has more votes than floyd and bhop combined. Here's a little trivia. Manny Pacquiao has been in The Ring's Pound for Pound list for 268 weeks, as of January 18, 2009. That comes down to a few days short of 5 years and 6 months, consecutively. It ranks him as the longest resident of the current list. Joe Calzaghe, P4P no. 3, is the second longest inhabitant of the list at 151 weeks. Bernard Hopkins, rated P4P #4, is the 3rd longest resident for having been listed for 137 weeks. P4P #2 JMMarquez has been on the list for only 97 weeks. That puts him just ahead of Miguel Cotto who is ranked #8 P4P and listed for 85 weeks. Ricky Hatton is ranked 10th and has been on the list for only 9 weeks. He's the latest addition as he tailed Ivan Calderon (P4P #9) who has been in there for 14 weeks. and this one. The "Pound for Pound" Ring Ratings started January 1990. Here's the list of boxers that were Rated #1 and the months they had the Title: Tyson - January 1990 to May 1990 Chavez - June 1990 to December 1993 Whitaker - January 1994 to July 1996 Jones - August 1996 to July 1997 De La Hoya - August 1997 to December 1999 Jones - January 2000 to October 2000 Mosley - November 2000 to May 2002 Hopkins - June 2002 to June 2003 Jones - July 2003 to September 2004 Hopkins - October 2004 to October 2005 Mayweather - November 2005 to September 2008 Pacquiao - Fall/before Oct. 2008 to Present
From 2000 up to the present, floyd stayed the longest as #1 p4p. He could have stayed there longer had he not retired. Pac on the other hand gave us the most exciting fights of the decade, bar none.
yeah most exciting fights for US... FIGHT FREAKS... not the most exciting fights for the common fan of sports..... floyd has more accolades according to what you wrote as well... all those pac votes are probably 40% floyd haters
I voted Mayweather also...I get sleep everytime I see the replays of his fights...it feels so relaxing
For those of you picking PBF over Hopkins, are you doing so because Hopkins had about half of his MW reign before 2000? And if his reign were to have taken place after 2000, would you have picked him over PBF?
oh i'm sorry, i didn't know BET cared about who the fighter of the decade was....so yeah, you're right Floyd is BET's fighter of the decade but Pacman is boxings fighter of the Decade besides even commercially it wouldn't be Floyd, it would be Oscar....that post is ridiculous
bet? are you serious... thats a really intelligent comment (sarcasm)... honestly its really stupid ignorant racist and obnoxious..... how about 2008 espy for fighter of the year 1998 2007 ring magazine fighter of the year 3 years str8 #1 on the pound for pound charts ( july 18 2005-june 2 2008 ) #48 on espn's top 50 all time fighters Broke the world record for ppv buys for a fight.... (for this feat alone floyd basically owns the decade for technically owning with oscar the biggest measurable fight ever) so take that bet comment and shove it up your ass..... racist
hmm racist?.....well i might understand what you gettin at if i wasn't black but i am, so i dont understand how that could be racist.....but newayz, i've done the whole comparison of there 2 resumes/in-ring accomplishments thousands of times on here so i'm not about to do it again anyone with any kind of boxing knowledge can tell you the difference between, Pacs resume and Floyds,.....and you think just because his fight with Oscar pulled in the most money of the decade (which was mainly due to Oscar) that he's the fighter of the decade? thats ridiculous......if thats the case then you also consider Mike Tyson the GOAT too huh? or Oscar a top 3 ATG right? be realistic, if we measured a fighter on how much he makes, then Wlad would be a top 3 P4P fighter and i see you trying to bring up that ESPN top 50 of all time like it means that much, but ok...i'll entertain that idea Pac beat Morales who is ranked 49 (FMJ's #48 btw), he beat Barerra who is ranked 43, and Oscar who ranked 39.....you do the math and tell me who's greater of the two it's called FIGHTER of the decade for a reason, it's goes the more accomplished fighter, and like i said b4 even if it did go to the person with the biggest draw, it still wouldn't be Floyd.... so if you wanna talk commercial, who's banked more money, then the fighter of the decade is Oscar De La Hoya and if you wanna talk the actuall fighter of the decade, as in whos accomplished more inside the ring the fighter of the decade is Manny Pacquiao neither choice are you left with FMJ....you'd have to be a hater, fool, or dickrider to think otherwise...and **** this explanation wasn't even necessary so i'll end what i gotta say with this post, if you still think otherwise take a look at the polls for proof
floyd is the best of both worlds oscar is paid but loses manny wins but isnt commercial edit: oh and to touch up your tyson comment.... he will go down as the 2nd most memorable boxer figure next to ali.... as far as time goes on.... people still say tysons name and tremble in fear.... holyfield & lennox... those are just guys who beat tyson and are just a chapter in the book of tyson... not the other way around
or can you say Manny hasn't cherrypicked/avoided like the other 2 have, but newayz thats a different argument in itself, Floyd's your personal FOTD, whatever helps you sleep at night son.....
