I didnt know a 37 year old washed up fighter could be accused of ducking someone. especially if that certain white fighter had no intention of fighting wills until jack sharkey already exposed him as old. Tunney has enough of his own problems with his ducking godfrey.

Well Wills would've had a shot at Dempseys title if he defeated Tunney - Wills was at the time the No.1 contender. He couldn't possibly have been that washed up given he was No.1 contender and begging for a title shot. He ducked Tunney and it cost him his chance.

You just said it yourself Harry Wills was the # 1 contender. so why would he have to fight an unproven former lightheavyweight like tunney to gain his title shot? He had been the # 1 ranked contender for SEVEN straight years.......he should not have to do anything more to earn a title shot, he had already earned his shot a long time ago, and fighting gene tunney at age 36 was going to prove a thing. He was getting old and wanted his long deserving shot at dempsey before retirement.

btw, Tunney did not challenge wills until after sharkey exposed him. Tunney never fought one black fighter his whole career. Genes management refused to throw gene in with harry wills until harry was 36 and showed drastic signs of aging.

Just how highly do you rate Valdez among other MW bangers like Tiger, Walker, Zale, Benn, McClellan, etc?

Cool. I'm the same as yourself on heavyweights. They don't do it for me like the lighter fighters. Good history about the division and many interesting personalities, thats about it.

Wills was never going to get a title shot at that particular time in history. No black fighter was.
