Fighters paying full attention to their cornermen

Just watched the Khan-Mallignaggi fight with HBO's coverage, and noticed how Khan was following every word Roach was saying, almost like he's sitting an exam, whereas Younan had to ask Paulie to concentrate on what he was saying a few times. I think its the first time i've ever seen anybody pay that much attention to their corners, usually most of them cant wait to getout back into the middle of the ring to get away from the ****.

Anybody else recall any similar situations?

Also American coverage >>>>>> UK coverage, wtf's with all the adverts, i dont pay £15 to then sit thru fckin adverts too, its high time the BBC brought back big time boxing, so we dont have to sit thru that ****, and we can hear what the corners say and also see a decent replay, rather than one that cut short cos the next rounds already started.

 

How much do you think it costs a TV company to put a boxing show on?? and how do you think they make the money to pay for that, from selling advertising space. For a boxing show the prime place for the is inbetween rounds.

If your not happy about it don't watch the fight live and fast forward it or buy a dvd on a later date otherwise get used to even less boxing on TV.

 

Can I ask why are people so bothered about listening to what the corner are saying in a fight??

I dont watch a Boxing match to see what the corner are saying.

 

HBO are a premium channel - entirely subscriber based - so don't rely on advertising in the same way. Plus, they're owned by Warner Media Group, which probably helps. ITV are not funded that way and rely on advertising - so what the hell else are they meant to do?

I usually do it to gauge how good a trainer is, when you see Froch fight you would think he isn't schooled that well but when you hear McCrackens advice its usually spot on it just never reaches the ring.

Bradleys coach is usually very good with his advice and Tim usually follows it well.

I love listening to what the trainers have to say in between rounds. Hate it when it's in foreign.

I find it interesting to see how much of the success or failing in a fight is down to in fight adjustments or advice given by the trainers as against how much is just pure talent or grit from the fighters themselves. Nice to compare how a trainer reads a fight as it progresses versus my own view as well.

 

In the Hatton Pac Man fight I remember Floyd Snr telling Hatton to move his head but you could see he wasnt paying any attention

It's easier to pay attention to your corner when cruising, the majority of those not paying nay attention to their corner are usually losing badly in the fight.

 

Yeah, I love listening to the cornerman. I find Buddy McGirt comes out with the most interesting and profound stuff, like "You want some water baby?".

 

Naz would listen to Ingle like a... thing that listens a lot :huh But really, he would showboat in the ring, talk over fighters and interviewers, but would always listen to Ingle in the corner.

 

Think also it has to do with the level of trust involved - you could pretty much tell the relationship between Hatton and Snr had broken down by that point, and Hatton was doing his own thing in there. Always find it quite striking the way Adam Booth speaks to Haye between rounds - very quietly-spoken, but you can tell he's got his fighter's absolute attention.
