The Mike Tyson who bobbed and weaved and used his jab for all 12 rounds and kept combination punching throughout while with Kevin Rooney is a myth.

We have better video evidence of Bigfoot.

What if a young Cassius Clay (Muhammad Ali) had never had his bicycle stolen in Louisville, Kentucky in 1954, and he did not report it to Police Officer Joe Martin in angered tears. Ali might have not taken up boxing.

Legend says once upon a time there was a guy called Fairweather who won multiple boxing championships... but actually he was a top bicycle rider, no a boxer.

That Bigfoot fella moves really well for his size. Someone should sign him up. Where’s he at these days? I’d like to see him vs Fury.

I see the footage is split credited to a Patterson also - Floyd, scouting for Cus?

"Charles" Sonny Liston the boxer we see on film obviously existed. But given the dodgy birth records (we can't even be certain of the month, let alone the day) and the fact he was rumored to be using the name of his brother Charles, Liston as a legal person may not have existed. Liston is such a fascinating boxer: he seems to have just emerged out of the abyss, and then mysteriously returned to the abyss just as abruptly as he came. Both his birth and death are more clouded than the dark side. Perhaps he was born to bring balance to the force of boxing with too many wholesome positive champions before him.

More video proof that Bigfoot existed:

It was often brought up that Everett Martin wore like size 7 shoes and the announcers would wonder how he got his nickname. He didn’t shave his upper body most of his career and was a very hairy man.

The more romanticised and extreme methods of loading gloves (rail spike, plaster of Paris etc.) appear mythical.

Though I do understand they could get away with too much or non regulation wraps/tape or tampering with the structure and/or filling of the gloves. Dampening the wraps with water just prior to donning the gloves is another method I’ve read of.

I read one claim in an old boxing mag. of a fighter who hid some chook wire in his mouth so that he would cut up real quick and force a stoppage. Can’t remember his alleged motive - a strange and unusual method to “fix” a fight and possibly to do with betting

I would ordinarily take extreme offence to any fighter being maligned and disrespected the way Greb has been for soooo long on this site.

But since he didn’t actually exist, I guess it’s okay. No harm, no foul.

    What’s in a name, eh?

People may not have heard of him and, dang it, do you think I could find any footage of him? - but there was also the one and only Foot Long Ferguson.

He had tiny feet, ate very unhealthily and despised Subway especially.

Deductively, that perhaps leaves only one other answer - rather than me spoil it, let’s make that one today’s trivia question.

Is this a cryptic reference to former major leaguer Harry “Suitcase” Simpson?

Simpson played in the majors for eight years in the 1940s/50s and played for five teams. The joke was that his nickname came from always having his suitcase packed for a trade. (He was also one of the earliest black players in the majors btw.)

In truth, his nickname was derived from a popular comic strip of the day that had a character named Suitcase Simpson, and the fact that he wore size 13 shoes — the joke being that his shoes were the size of a suitcase.

I am not making this up.

Tbh, hadn’t heard of Simpson. Sometimes truth is better than the fiction we imagine. Cheers for the interesting info.

Well then, you get the prize for the right answer, which even I didn’t know until you gave it - and that prize is a free years membership to the Harry Greb Fan Club - all the bells and whistles - , Harry Badge, Harry Bobble Head, Harry Desk Calendar, the much sought after Where’s Harry Puzzle Book series etc.

Membership numbers are swelling - that makes two of us now.
