The man has made millions, and become world champion with zero pop in his punches, I'm curious how you think he could of done better?
I felt a fighter with that particular style could have adopted a better style of defense which could have helped him alot, also I felt he could have been more focused for all 12 rounds than he sometimes demonstrated.
Salvador Sánchez was truly amazing at such a short age, and getting better with every fight. I'd say sky was the limit for him, truly a shame that he died so young G.O.A.T material there, for sure
Skipping his relationship with McGirt. 2006-2008. Cherry, N'Dou, Ngoudjo, N'Dou II, Hatton. Easily the worst period of his career; all those performances were terrible. Take away Buddy and he may have even been able to beat that 2008 version of Hatton (who'd looked like absolute dog **** against Lazcano). That changes his career dramatically. The losses to Khan, and Diaz the first time out - nothing much to be done about those, really. Against Diaz there wasn't much more he could do - he fought well enough, but was just unlucky on the cards. Wrong set of judges. Against Khan, he was just out-classed plain and simple. Same with Cotto, Paulie was never beating him.
I had a feeling that Paulie would beat Hatton, I thought he was too slick for a Hatton who looked poor against Lazcano and had then ditched Kerry Kayes. (That was more important than people think.) And he lost, but the Cotto fight is my favourite Mallignaggi match, he proved he was for real.

(and of course a certain someone did pluck him right off the vine his very next time out...of course, Paulie not being a KO artist was never going to beat Hatton the way Mayweather & Pacquiao did, but as you say he stood a very good chance of stymieing that shitty 2008 version of Hatton with pure slickness had Buddy not *******ized his style). To this day I maintain that Malignaggi with Billy Giles still working his corner and camp would have won that night. The Cotto fight has to be everybody's favorite Malignaggi fight - even his. :yep
I disagree 100% with your assessment of Pwill. the guy had a huge advantage in height and reach but never learned how to use it properly. HIs trainer should be shot for letting him fight the way he does. He was able to use the skills he did have to beat limit op like Tony but left himself open to fighters with above average skills. Cintron had heart until the first Margo fight and last what little he had left after the second one. Haye had Heart, just not the skill to deal with wlad RJJ, may not have been as flashy if he took the craft of boxing more seriously but he could have been top 5 with the attributes he had in the ring. Yes, the bros win, and i guess that is all that matters, but the have no one to push the to greatness
How has no one mentioned hamed yet? The guy took on alot of bums, showed natural talent. Stepped up to world class opp, got beat/exposed and never came back....

Maybe I'm wrong but I've always felt Ricardo Mayorga could of being much more than he became, although he did pretty well for himself, taking training more seriously, technique, more respect for his opponents (Trinidad comes to mind) could have made him much more than he became. Plus he could've actually backed up his wild pre-fight antics lol
