why on the Cotto steward partnership?

Williams has the physical attributes to be a boxer at 147 just as Corrales did at 130, but sometimes guys just cant fight that way. Not sure it has much to do with stupidity, just ability.

Steward's boxing-heavy 1-2 style isn't necessarily the right thing for a guy like Miguel. Against Foreman I saw him box more than ever before, and even successfully, but the ferocity, the consistent body work, and the combinations weren't there like they used to be. Miguel Cotto as a safety first fighter is not only boring to me but a poor use of his strengths to boot.

I'm not arguing that Paul doesn't have the physical attributes- that's obvious. I am saying that his adaptability, his natural defensive senses, and his boxing IQ overall just aren't very impressive, certainly not impressive enough for him to adopt a more "intelligent" boxing at range style.

I think with Cotto he has to kind of fight that way now. He has to be more tactically savvy, because I think hes damaged goods now and Steward knows it. Miguel has some decent skills too from the outside. He has to protect himself a little better. He still did Foreman in with a nice bodyshot to the liver though. :hey

Agree on Williams thats kind of what I meant, hes not really capable of fighting in any other way than all offense. I think he would get tagged if he tried to stay outside, but I also think hes going to become very ordinary at the high weights, because he cant continue to take that kind of punishment.

It's true, that was a nice way to end the fight, his best punch in his repertoire and we only saw it significantly thrown a couple of times sadly. I agree that safety-first might be necessary for him now, but I reject the idea that he's damaged goods. He's really only taken two bad losses, and while I understand he's been in a couple of wars and been at the game for a while, he looked pretty solid to me.

Williams is like a dumber, lankier, taller Pacquiao. Pretty much all he's got going is incredible stamina, workrate and physical stats. I hear he doesn't think he can be a middleweight fighter, which might be the reason MW II is taking place at another ****ing catchweight.

i think paul wiiliams is the perfect example of someone given the wrong style, if you look at all the interviews with george peterson he says he is going to make williams punch punch and punch some more whereas it would probably be more beneficial to paul if he cultivated a good hard southpaw jab and dictated the fight with his height and reach a little more. Manny Steward would be the perfect trainer for him IMO and williams would probably have more pop on his shots if he were more controlled and concentrated on gettiung proper leverage on each shot.

Williams fights like a robot. he should have way more defense for a tall southpaw.

What do you guys think about Andre Berto? I would love to see him with more head movement and infighting.

Ossie Ocasio. He spent far too much time on the outside for someone with his build and his head-movement. He should have been trained to slip inside and work away.

Yeah hes another one thats getting by on his youth right now. I dont see a lot of thought to his game. Its just full throttle forward. I dont see him being a dominant champion.

i agree. i view him and paul williams in the same light. Getting by on their youth and physical advantages like you said. I would like to see him with a frazier or Tyson style.

Guys like Angulo, Berto, and even Williams to an extent are a symptom of the death of infighting, there are too few teachers for the style that they need to learn.
