michael watson was doing the open gloved defence way before...eubank said "when nigel benn punched, all michael did was open his hands and cupped them around his head.see i had always covered up like this (puts his hands in traditional vertical fashion).that was never effective i knew it and only in my fight with michael did he show me to cover up properly and effectivly by opening your hands place them on your head and nothin nothign could get through. and becuase of this nigel punched himself out"

and pavlik had a very very similar style to carlos monzon. using the jab then crushing his opponant.

i would liek to say that chris eubank is maybe the most awkward and unrepeatable fighter ever. neither a boxer, nor a puncher not a defencive artist and not a runner.
yet he was impossible beat until he was past his prime.

when people talk about how guys form the "olden dayz" would not be able to beat more technically gifted guy. yet this man ran on only instincts and an iron chin and was impossible to get a win on (though the benn and thulani fights were very very close)

Mike The Bounty Hunter was a true original, who though he never won a title, was one of my favorites and deserves mention.

I get the idea that Jack Dillon did it before Dempsey and Terry McGovern before him.

Bingo! The ultimate choice for an original style has to go to Maxie Rosenbloom. To have that many fights, with no punching power at all worth speaking of. He was amazing. He fought all the time, and was just stopped, what, a couple of times?

Gene Fullmer--I don't think anyone has mentioned but he had a unique style unlike anyone else, cross-armed defense, crouch to the waist, sort of windmill over the top rights, mixed with classic but oddly awkward boxing skills.
