He's a bloody saint, isn't he? Seriously, though, a pretty much perfect career after which he retired in good physical health and he has gone on to live a long and happily married life - I wish his story was more the rule than the exception.
Seemed very talented in other areas too. In the 'Quabrando A Cara' documentary, Jofre was shown sketching and he looked quite good at it. In fact, I think art and Boxers is an interesting topic, since I can immediately think of Walker, Jofre and Onizuka who were talented at it, with both Walker and Onizuka selling their work to others. Some top Boxers are very artistic people. Here's the doc uploaded by Chris / Chris' friend if you haven't seen it: This content is protected
Jofre's just one of those guys who can make ordinary mortals feel like an abject failure in comparison with him, isn't he? "Eder Jofre was one of the greatest fighters in boxing history." "Still - a boxer though... must have been a bit of thug." "Actually, he was a great sportsman and a perfect gent outside the ring." "Boxing's a brutal sport though, must have taken its toll on his health." "No, he seems to have suffered no ill effects from his boxing career and has lived a healthy and active life in retirement - a noted fitness fanatic who was always in shape inside and outside the ring." "Still... all that fame - must have played away" "Nope - as far as we know, he had a very happy and faithful marriage that lasted over 50 years." "Yeah, but a boxer - probably not that bright?" "Wrong again. He's been a successful businessman in Brazil and is an artist in his spare time." "...Oh just **** off."
A guy like Jofre can either make you seethe in jealousy or serve as an ideal. Unfortunately, more people would be jealous than try living up to his example.
He was also successful in politics. How he got started was interesting (I’ll save it for the book haha) but his whole career in politics was about other people and he totally refused to pander to any of the dirt. He’s from a great family on both sides. Poor families but great families. He got rich and famous but was always humble and helped other people. You see his class in his children.
