Truly one of the most disgracefully corrupt boxing incidents I have witnessed. Everybody was in on it. In plain ****ing sight.
Bert, it was like a tragic comedy. Did you see the shortened rounds? My head-shaking favorite had to be the ref allowing Coggi's corner to stand on the apron directly behind him clasping the waist of his trunks so he didn't fall over. Un-friggin-believable!
John L Gardner v Ossie Ocasio complete put up job Ossie literally threw himself on the ground without taking a blow.
Tyson vs Etienne looks fixed. A no good con takes a pay day to lay down, with a Tyson who claimed to have hurt his back during the process. The stinking smile Etienne had, watch it for yourself.
This content is protected I watched this live. There were rumours about Briggs health going into this and no one expected him to beat Danny Green at this this stage of his career but c'mon? It was worse con job than Tyson-Seldon. Even worse was in light of how indignant Danny Green was about Paul Briggs quit job post fight, by the next day Danny was claiming that he actually did hit him solidly and Briggs was legitimately hurt. It was just totally corrupt but even worse it was ineptly, totally corrupt.
I once read an interview with Bruce "The Mouse" Strauss where he discussed his approach to fights. He'd fought so often that within one round he'd be able to assess his opponent's ability fully. If he felt he could beat the other guy, he would. If they were of equal ability, he'd just treat it as a sparring session. If the other guy was far better than him and could potentially hurt him, he'd go down and stay down the first time he got hit with a fairly solid punch. I think a lot of fighters who are just being paid to be an opponent take that approach also.
I saw Strauss deliberately "let off the gas" on ESPN against unbeaten Danny Ferris to salvage a draw when he was dominating and seemingly on his way to a stoppage win and it was obvious to everyone watching that he did it. Strauss could fight. Always fought James Scott deliberately handcuffed himself against Dwight Muhammad Qawi. Qawi never hurt him and it looked like Scott got panicked when he hurt Qawi in the 8th or 9th and started rope-a-doping to not follow up. Always figured Rahway wanted the graduate to win rather than the near-lifer and he went along with directions. Recent "fix" I saw for the first time, although no fault of the fighters, was James Salerno shellacking Prince Charles Williams and then losing the split decision. Just awful. I'd vote for both Ali-Liston fights being bought and paid for without Ali's knowledge.
Can't say it was fixed , but Kermit Cintron intentionally jumped out of the ring against Paul Williams and tried to play it off like he fell out and couldnt continue
Several of Carnera's opponents had their licences pulled and their purses withheld, that goes beyond fights not being competitive and into set -up territory.
