Yes, you've got a point there. i remember waking up the following morning after Johnny Owen's fight with Lupe Pintor and hearing the news that he was in a bad way. I was gutted.
Docherty-Murray was the one that hit me the hardest. Watson was my favourite boxer when he got hurt. Not been able to watch that KO since. I watch up until then though, it's Watson's best performance. But when it comes close to the KO I get a feeling like i'm going to puke. The oddest thing.
Duran - Moore The first fight I can ever remember watching live. I still get queasy when the 8th round rolls around - Ernesto Magana sucked.
Duran-Barkley I vaguely remember when I was a kid of this match. My father and grandfather were in great spirits over the whole thing, as Duran was one of their all-time favorites. Barkley had challenged Duran, in the hopes of defeating him, to avenge his friend Davey Moore's loss to the 'Hands of Stone'. For what was supposed to be an easy night for Barkley, turned out to be a highly competitive fight from bell to bell. Duran was nearing his 40's, but held his own the whole scheduled distance. When the verdict was read, there were no two happier people on this Earth, with the exception of Duran, than my father and grandfather. Duran won a razor thin decision over 'The Blade'. Now, years later, I have reviewed this fight a few times, and while it gets closer and closer, I think the decision was true. Many still to this day dispute the decision, saying that Barkley had the upper hand, but in my eyes, Duran edged it.
Suddenly got the upper hand? Every round of that fight was a 10-8. Steele didn't last a single shot, literally. Complete and total slaughter.

Plenty of big fights stand out and when I first got interested, McGuigan was in his pomp against Pedrosa etc, Eubank and the Benn wars also but for some reason Thompson Vs Rothman stands out for me. Maybe because yeah you see fighters in trouble who land a big bomb out of the blue but Thompson looked sad, tired, beaten and broken over a series of rounds, even the commentators were asking the ref to stop it; then.............................BANG!!! and the Cat's small indian summer begins.
