Garcia was expected to play right into Matthysse's hands and engage in a brawl and look to hit the jackpot and land that big left hook to try and finish it.

Instead he used good footwork, a good jab, angles and great counter-punching to keep Matthysse at bay, plus he didn't look too shabby when he did have to stand and trade either.

I was surprised, although all he's done since is pretty much sabotage his own career, shame.

I was just about to post that. I remember watching that fight live, and couldn't believe Peter was able to outbox Toney. Unfortunately Peter would never duplicate that type of performance ever again.

Idk about crude, but powerpunching Tommy Morrison vs Big George comes to mind. Barkley was on a ko streak when he was boxing beautifully against Duran, tho he lost. Corrales-Casamayor II, Chico actually boxed pretty well behind the jab, never seen him box that well. Was more of a close win not really a master class. Tito Trinidad won a one sided fight vs a faded Whitaker.

The thing about Kovalev is that he has never been close to power-reliant. He has technical skills and had shown them before in each of his KO's. People get blown away by the final punch that lands but everything before it showed that he is NOT dependent on his power.

Not a "Masterclass" maybe Valero vs Demarco. I thought it was done after that bad gash on Valero.

Good thread this, always fascinating when someone switches up their style. Shows real class

Would certainly make me chuckle if we end up having to add Wilder-Stiverne to this list...
