Amsterdam is a snob, and only appreciates certain styles, but I think he is generally right about Pacquiao's shakey status as #1 P4P. He has it now by default, but he is one sub par performance away from losing that distinction. Mayweather and Jones had iron grips on P4P during their late prime years. - Jason (That said, I am very proud of Manny, and I await his fights more eagerly than any other fighter)
Mike Tyson was FAR bigger and when he left boxing moved on and adopted many other fighters, same thing with Ali who was/is FAR bigger than both Tyson and Pac. You're just taking nuthugging to another level.
i just want to say that about 20-40% of sports writers had Pac as p4p#1 before Floyd beat ODLH. It was extremely close. The ODLH fight was really what put Floyd over the top and the Hatton fight sealed the deal beyond any doubt. I am not talking for myself, but the boxing establishment in general.
i like how one journalist in the post fight conference asked Manny if he was the best lightweight in the world period and Pac answered something like "I dont want to compare my ability to other fighters. I'm just a fighter whose doing my job to keep people happy and to give a good show."
