How is it cheating if he used wraps his opponent checked and approved of? And if he didn't care why would he check them?
Did it maybe ever occur to you that Jeffries didn’t know his face would get cut to ribbons as a result of his opponent using electrical tape? Even then, just because Jeffries was okay with it doesn’t mean it’s not against the rules. He checked them because I imagine it was common practice just like trainers today watch the other fighters hands get wrapped. It was also rumored that Fitz was going to out plaster of Paris on his hands which would essentially turn them to rocks.
Did it maybe ever occur to you that Jeffries was facing arguably the greatest puncher ever, and that he may had something to do with it?
Being a good puncher doesn’t explain why you tear someone’s face to ribbons that absolutely smashed you to a pulp in the previous fight. Especially when they outweigh you by nearly 60 lbs and it being rumored that Fitz was going to use plaster of Paris against Jeff.
Bump cuz it's an interesting thread. Genuinely don't know who wins, Fitz has proven formidable against heavys and definitely has the power to knock Patterson out, but it's also hard to see the dude from the Corbett footage beating Floyd Patterson. Then again I wouldn't see that fighter beating up Jeffries either yet he did lol. I like giving fighters from that era the benefit of the doubt due to lack of footage. Fitz probably goes down a few times but eventually KOs Floyd
I think it would essentially be an even fight (with Patterson having certain advantages that would be offset by the advantages Fitzsimmons would have), EXCEPT for one thing: STYLES. For that reason, I am going with Bob Fitzsimmons for the win.
